MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State University will welcome members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources (BANR) when it meets April 23-24 for its biennial meeting and 75th anniversary lecture.
The NAS board addresses issues of agricultural production and related matters of natural resource development, including forestry, fisheries, wildlife and land and water use.
While in Manhattan, on April 23, board members will learn about the Kansas 50-Year Water Vision, water technology farms, the National Plant Diagnostic Network, the National Bio- and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), K-State Research and Extension, and visit the Biosecurity Research Institute. Most of the BANR sessions are open to the campus community and public.
The BANR 75th anniversary keynote lecture by James Prosser, professor at the University of Aberdeen and member of the Royal Society will address “Harnessing Soil and Plant Microbiomics for Agriculture: Hype, Hope and Reality,” at 3 p.m. in the McVay Family Town Hall, Leadership Studies Building.
The lecture is part of the Chuck and Sue Rice International Agronomy Lecture series, hosted by the K-State Department of Agronomy.
Kansas State University Distinguished Professor Chuck Rice serves as the BANR board chair.
