JUST A REMINDER:
Open enrollment for the State of Kansas health insurance and KanElect flexible spending account  plans will be in October 2000. This open enrollment will allow you to make changes to your health insurance plan for plan year 2001. If you don’t want to make any changes to your current health insurance plan, it will automatically be the same plan in 2001.

Those who are now participating in or want to participate in the KanElect flexible spending accounts for plan year 2001 need to enroll during October 2000.

Both open enrollments will be conducted on-line, via internet, through a program called AKSESS. Each employee will receive, at your home address, a password to use for open enrollment. Please keep the password handy. You will need it to do open enrollment in October.

The AKSESS program is available, starting October 1, 2000, from any computer that has either Netscape 4.74 or Internet Explorer 5.5 versions, using the URL –  http://da.state.ks.us/aksess

College of Agriculture and K-State Research & Extension personnel who have questions may contact Teri Davis, 532-7314, or Carol Moore, 532- 0783. --Doug Elcock  delcock@oz.oznet.ksu.edu and Joe Younger jyounger@ksu.edu

K-STATE RESEARCH AND EXTENSION NAME BADGES
Plan to wear your official K-State Research and Extension name badge at Annual Conference.  If you don't have a name badge, call Sue Robinson, 785-532-5820; or e-mail srobinso@oznet.ksu.edu to order one.  If you prefer a pin instead of the magnet, please specify that when you place your order.

NEW KANSAS FOREST SERVICE FIRE WEB PAGE
The Kansas Forest Service has greatly increased the amount of information about its rural fire education and the rural fire program on its web site. Check it out at http://www.kansasforests.org .  --Jon Skinner  Jskinner@oznet.ksu.edu

ES-237 REPORT AND TWO DISKS DUE OCTOBER 1 TO THE STATE 4-H OFFICE.
One disk should be labeled ES-237, and list the four ES-237 db files, with county name, county number, and 4-H year. The second disk should be labeled YOUTH DATA FILES, with county name, county number, and 4-H year. The second disk will have eight Blue Ribbon Youth .db files. A printed, balanced ES-237 Report is to be submitted with the two disks.

4-H Youth Enrollment reporting is critically important at the county, state and federal levels, both to 4-H Youth Development itself, and for funding. Instructions for completing your ES-237 Report is available from this hyperlink: http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/dp_4hyp/BRes-237.htm .

Since I will be at the State Fair Thursday, September 7 - Monday, September 18, support concerning the Blue Ribbon Youth ES-237 Report will be limited. MarTech will be able to help with support in my absence, but before calls are made, have the program open and have references in hand concerning the problem.  Their number is 715-845-2794.

I will be attending the Annual Youth Enrollment User Conference in Wisconsin Monday, September 25  - Friday, September 29. Blue Ribbon Youth ES-237 Report support will be limited during that time. --Sheila Roffler  sroffler@oznet.ksu.edu

PUBLICATIONS FROM THE US GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE
Extension Operations received a shipment of publications from the US Government Printing Office in Pueblo, CO that does not belong to us. It looks as though the return address from a penalty mail envelope was torn off of an envelope and used as a mailing label. The order form does not say who ordered the publications.

Some of the publications in the shipment:

...Growing Up Drug-Free, A Parent's Guide to Prevention
...How To Buy A Home With A Low Down Payment
...Setting Goals For Weight Loss
...Top 10 Ways to beat the clock and prepare for retirement
...Your Guide to Choosing a Nursing Home

If these are your publications, please call the Extension Operations Office at 785-532-5790. --Stacy Divine  sdivine@oznet.ksu.edu

PUBLICATIONS/PRODUCTION SERVICES UPDATE
Planning Materials: Each K-State Research and Extension department head; state leader; research center head; and county, district and area office should have received planning materials for ordering publications during 2001. As noted on the forms, these materials are for planning only. Please do not use them to place orders. Publications to be released, revised or reprinted are subject to change and may vary considerably from the planning materials. Order forms for new or revised publications will be sent monthly. Orders for reprints will be sent quarterly.

4-H Materials: The Distribution Center has recently received a number of late orders for large quantities of 4-H materials -- particularly member and leader registration forms. The late orders have resulted in the need to reprint several thousand forms, which could have been produced more economically during a single print run. Please remember that most 4-H materials are listed on the 3rd Quarter Order Form. That means they will be delivered on or about July 1, allowing plenty of time to organize before the beginning of the 4-H year. Please watch order forms closely for reprints and revisions; then order according to your need. --Nancy Peavler  npeavler@oznet.ksu.edu
