ADDITIONAL PROPOSED CHANGES TO EPSILON SIGMA PHI CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS
Recently Epsilon Sigma Phi members received notification of the annual business meeting to be held October 24, noon - 1:15 p.m., in conjunction with the K-State Research and Extension annual conference. The newsletter that contained the notification also contained proposed changes to the ESP Constitution and Bylaws. Since that time we have received the following from Jim Lindquist:

"A call has come out through CSREES to offer membership to our 1994 Extension colleagues in ESP.  States with 1862 and 1890 land grants belong to the same chapter (one chapter per state), even though they are in different institutions. We have not had another land grant, so never thought about this possibility. Now with Haskell as a 1994 Land Grant Institution, their Extension professionals should be offered membership in Alpha Rho. Right now they qualify for Associate Active membership. However, in the active members section of the constitution, it specifically mentions Division of Extension, Kansas State University. This is also mentioned in item c of article III on Membership. We probably need to look at adding Haskell Indian Nations University to our constitution to allow full membership after five years of employment."

The Executive board has okayed the following proposed changes in addition to those listed in the September newsletter to be voted on by the membership.

Article III Sec.1. c.
... Service at Kansas State University, Haskell Indian Nations University, CSREES, or other land grant universities applies.

Article III Sec.2. a.
Active members shall be those staff who are currently or formerly employed as Extension professionals in the Division of Extension, Kansas State University and Haskell Indian Nations University, and who have paid their current membership dues.

RURAL/URBAN ISSUES TRAINING SESSION OFFERED
Counties across the state face the impact of growth and development and conflicting interests at the rural/urban interface.  The broad scope of challenges includes land use and environmental issues; public finance, economic development, and the demand for public services; and community development and interpersonal relations.

The training session for agents, county directors, and other Extension professionals will be held at the Douglas County Extension Office in Lawrence on September 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The session will provide knowledge and skills on the impacts and challenges of growth and development, the issues and programming needs at the rural/urban interface, and the methods and tools to deliver successful Extension programming on rural/urban issues.

CORRECTION ON COUNTY ORDER FORM FOR 4-H MEDALS
"Aerospace" is the new name for the former Rocketry project. On the order form for county medals that was sent out from our office, I changed the name and the alpha list of projects with medals starts with "Aerospace". The space for Rocketry/Aerospace which appears later in the form should have been deleted. YOU WILL ONLY RECEIVE ONE FREE MEDAL FOR YOUR AEROSPACE OR ROCKETRY WINNER. If you need more than that one medal, you may purchase additional medals as needed. --Steve Fisher  sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu
