COMMUNICATIONS ACCOUNT STATEMENTS DELAYED DUE TO SOFTWARE UPGRADE
The Department of Communications is in the process of upgrading its invoicing and inventory tracking software. Unfortunately, the software upgrade is not proving to be as reliable as promised by the vendor. It appears to be a beta test version that has been marketed, and we will continue to work with the vendor on problems we are experiencing. As we work through these problems during the next few months, customers will receive statements as they can be processed -- but at irregular intervals. Thank you for your patience and understanding. --Nancy Peavler npeavler@oznet.ksu.edu

AMERICAN EXPRESS CARDS EXPIRED
The American Express Corporate Card was recently replaced with a Visa Business Travel Card. All existing American Express Cards were deactivated as of September 18, 2000.

All American Express Card holders were sent an application form for the new card at their home address about six weeks ago. It looked like a credit card application so if you mistakenly threw it away, contact Pat Schwandt at the K-State Human Resources Office at 785-532-6277 for a new application form. --Stacey Warner swarner@oznet.ksu.edu

PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS LAUNCHES SIXTH ANNUAL SEARCH FOR TOP YOUNG VOLUNTEERS
Now is the time to nominate your outstanding middle and high school 4-H'ers who are making a difference in their community. Both Kansas winners last year were 4-H members. This is a terrific opportunity to let the country know that our 4-H'ers do make a difference. Note the October 31 deadline.

Young people across America who are volunteering in their communities may apply for the Sixth Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential, in partnership with The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). These awards honor young people in grades 5-12, who by performing volunteer service in the past year, have helped make their communities better places to live.

Applications, which must be submitted by October 31, 2000, are available through middle and high schools, Girl Scout Councils, and county 4-H offices, or in the community involvement section of http://www.prudential.com or by calling 1-888-450-9961. Participating middle and high schools, Girl Scout Councils, and county 4-H offices will select and honor their top youth volunteers, and nominate them for statewide and national recognition.

Two top volunteers from each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico will then be selected as State Honorees in February 2001, and will receive $1,000, a silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington,  DC the following May for four days of recognition events.

A national selection committee will name 10 of the 104 State Honorees as America's top youth volunteers of the year at an awards ceremony in Washington. Each National Honoree will receive an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, and a crystal trophy for his or her school, Girl Scout Council, or county 4-H organization. In addition, the 10 National Honorees will have a total of $250,000 in children's products donated in their names to needy children in their communities by Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., the national charity of the children's products industry. --Steve Fisher sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu

If your office has not yet ordered, please fax orders immediately to 785-532-7938 or e-mail to the current Distribution address, orderpub@lists.oznet.ksu.edu . Remember, the previous "orderpub" address is no longer active. Order forms for publications scheduled for delivery by January 2001 will be sent October 6.

When is Allocation Used for Postage? Postage for publication orders may be charged to the county allocation account when the order is received by the ordering period deadline listed on the monthly or quarterly order form. If the order is received outside that approximately three-week period, your office account will be billed for postage. To take full advantage of the allocation account, be sure to order before the deadline.

No "x" to Mark the Spot: The publication EFNEP5338x "Your Spending Plan," a four-page publication, was inadvertently reprinted without the "x" at the end of the number. It should not be confused with EFNEP5338, "Your Spending Plan: Worksheet," which is printed on only one side. Both items were offered on the 2000 Fourth Quarter Order Form. We regret the error, which will be corrected in the next  reprinting. --Nancy Peavler npeavler@oznet.ksu.edu
