Archer Daniel Midland, Inc. will announce a large financial donation to KSU to support construction of a new $5.2 million flour mill, which will be part of the new Grain Science Complex. The new Grain Science Complex will consist of five buildings, with all buildings designed to meet the needs of grain-related teaching, research, and extension in the 21st century.

We extend an invitation to all faculty, staff, and students to attend a press conference this Friday, December 8, 2000. The press conference takes place at 10:30 a.m. in K-State Student Union room 212. We hope to see all interested parties there. For more information, please contact Steven Graham, 532-5729. --Marc  Johnson mjohnson@oznet.ksu.edu and Brendan Donnelly bjd@wheat.ksu.edu

UNIVERSITY HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
The University will reduce activity from the close of business on Friday, December 22, 2000, through Monday, January 1, 2001. Although the University will close during this period, a few offices such as the University Police will keep a normal schedule. Since December 25 and January 1 are holidays, the only normal workdays affected will be December 26, 27, 28, and 29, 2000.

K-State Research and Extension’s policy will be the same as the University: to close campus offices and encourage employees not to work during this period, although some employees may be asked to work. Prior approval from the departmental supervisor is required. Buildings will be locked and heat may be reduced to conserve energy. --Marc Johnson mjohnson@oznet.ksu.edu

AIR QUALITY: BIOLOGICAL AIRBORNE PARTICULATE MATTER WORKSHOP

Science engineering and health aspects will be included. Air quality practices and standards for BAPM in hospitals, food processing facilities, public buildings, aircraft cabins, research laboratories and homes will be discussed.

The workshop will be open to all who wish to attend; however, attendance may be limited by room capacity. Researchers, air quality and health professionals, regulators, building engineers and students are encouraged to attend.

The full workshop learning objectives, agenda, registration information, and logistics can all be found at http://www.dce.ksu.edu/dce/conf/BAPMWorkshop/ . --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu

MISSING 4-H PHOTOGRAPHY SLIDE SETS
SOS! We have loaned out the Photography slide sets that used to be available from Distribution, and we're not sure who has them. If your county has borrowed them, please let me know. --Steve Fisher sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu

COLGATE YOUTH FOR AMERICA CAMPAIGN
Here's another recognition opportunity for 4-H clubs or groups performing community service. Tell Colgate about your club's service work and win cash grants! All you need to do is describe the work your club did in your community between March 1, 2000 and March 1, 2001. Details about a single large project, program or event are preferred over a list of several activities. Tell them about why the project was needed and how you filled that need.

Attach any materials that might help explain your idea and the scope of the program. You may include any media coverage (press clips, local government recognition, etc.) to help show the effect your project had. Please do not send videos of the actual project, but TV news or radio clips are accepted. Please limit photos to two. Materials will not be returned.

Over 315 cash prizes are available ranging from $100 to $2,000. Your project will be judged based on originality and the extent of community involvement or benefit. For more information go to www.colgate.com  or mail request to Colgate Youth for America, Box 1058, FDR Station New York, NY 10150, 1058. Entries must be received by March 15, 2001. --Steve Fisher sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu
