In addition to her work in Rawlins County and the Southeast Area Office, Ann has gained the distinction of being one of K-State's biggest fans. So bring your appetites and wear purple as we thank Ann, tailgate-style, for her dedication, service and friendship.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 4, 2001 to celebrate with Ann at the Bressner Building on the Woodson County Fairgrounds in Yates Center. To register for the meal, please RSVP with an $8.00 check made payable to "Southeast Area Office" before February 26.

DOG CARE AND TRAINING RECOGNITION ACHIEVEMENT LEVELS ESTABLISHED
Dog Care and Training Recognition Achievement Levels have been established by the Dog Care and Training Action Team. We hope to officially begin this voluntary recognition system next fall, but a few counties will be needed to help pilot the system this year.

The system is somewhat like the Horse project, but not as costly and will utilize our certified judges in local and state shows to evaluate skill levels.

The Dog Care and Training Action Team encourages you to share the website information with local leaders so they can begin to study the process and provide feedback as to how best to implement the system. To find an outline on the web follow these steps:

1. K-State Research and Extension website www.oznet.ksu.edu
2. Click on Units/Departments
3. Click on 4-H Youth Programs
4. Choose link "Action Teams"
5. Click on Dog Care and Training
6. Click on Action Committee
7. Click on Recognition System Achievement Levels

REPORTING FNP ON BLUE RIBBON
An agent recently inquired to Dr. Gerhard about reporting FNP youth contacts. Here is Gary's answer: "With FNP, yes, the school-aged contacts may be counted on the ES-237 as 4-H participants. Depending on the method of delivery, they would count probably as "Special Interest," "School-Enrichment," or "Club/Group." The subject matter area of course, I assume, would be food and nutrition."

We realize that you report these contacts to the FNP office, but their report and our ES-237 report are two different systems. We would encourage you to report school-age youth involved in your FNP program through the Blue Ribbon data management system also. --Steve Fisher sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu

NO MORE BEARS
Thank you for making the sale of 4-H bears a success; so successful in fact that we no longer have any bears to sell. Please watch the Kansas 4-H Journal for news regarding the next bear to be sold. --Jean Paquette jpaquett@oznet.ksu.edu

COUNTIES SELECTED FOR THE "PROMOTING A BALANCED LIFESTYLE" ACTION TEAM MODELS
Seven county Research and Extension faculty have been selected as models for the development, implementation and evaluation of the "Promoting a Balanced Lifestyle" Action Team 5-year action plan. Models will focus on logic model development, social marketing, programming to targeted audiences, and evaluation.

Local Research and Extension faculty were selected for model designation based on their:
* current "balancing" action plan,
* potential to carry out high quality, logical programs that have measurable results, and
* potential for diffusion of successful approaches.

Congratulations to: Anna Mae Brown, Crawford County; Denise Dias, Sedgwick County; Melinda Daily, Wallace County; Karla Hightower, Trego County; Denise Sullivan, Leavenworth County; Linda Walter, Finney County; Laurie Chandler, Shawnee County!

The model counties will benefit from additional skill development and specialist support in social marketing (the CHOOSE LIFE BALANCE campaign), evaluation, and logic model utility. For more information, contact Emily Mark, Elaine Johannes, or Katey Walker. --Elaine Johannes ejohanne@oznet.ksu.edu
