VALUES, VOICE, VISION AND VIRTUE: THE
2001 K-STATE LEADERSHIP SEMINAR
Practicing ethical leadership will be the focus of the fifth annual
K-State Leadership Seminar on February 28, 2001 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in
Room 212 of the K-State Student Union. Dr. Bill Grace, founder and
Executive
Director of the Center for Ethical Leadership, has developed the 4-V
Model of Ethical Leadership through his research. The 4-V Model features
values, voice, vision, and virtue components.
Dr. Grace's model is built on his
theoretical exploration of ethics as it is applied to leadership roles.
The model was created based on Grace's research on ethical leaders in
the Pacific Northwest. The need and demand for ethical leadership
training beyond higher education was the catalyst for the creation of
the Center for Ethical Leadership.
The Center for Ethical Leadership was
founded in 1990 as a non-profit corporation in the state of Washington.
The first ethical leadership program was launched in 1992 with
institutes for youth in the Seattle area. Since then, programs have
expanded to serve youth and adults with a focus on increasing moral
awareness and the courage to take moral action. The center has been
recognized in the top five leadership-training organizations in the
country, and receives support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
The K-State Leadership Seminar is
co-sponsored by the following offices and organizations: Office of the
Provost, College of Agriculture, KSU Center for Leadership, College of
Human Ecology, Leadership Studies and Programs, Huck Boyd National
Institute for Rural Development, Kansas Center for Rural Initiatives,
K-State Research & Extension, K-State Community Service Program, and
the Leadership Studies and Programs Ambassadors.
Registration for the seminar is $15 per
person, which includes an informal luncheon and breaks. Registration
materials are available from the Kansas Center for Rural Initiatives, kcri@ksu.edu
, 785-532-6868. --Stan McAdoo smcadoo@oznet.ksu.edu
KIDS' FIELD DAY
Kids' Field Day is the new Website designed by Jim Shroyer and
Denise Wood in Agronomy. The site, which can be found at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/fieldday/kids/
, comes with colorful illustrations and child-appropriate text to
educate children about the science used in agriculture. It covers
everything from "Soils are the Pits...come and see what we’re
talking about," to farmers’ use of satellites and computers to
increase production.
Take a look -- this is a great resource
for teachers, students and their parents to learn a lot more about
agriculture in an accurate but fun way. --Mary Lou Peter mlpeter@oznet.ksu.edu
RADIO BROADCASTING WORKSHOP FOR COUNTY
AGENTS
Following is an announcement of a special radio broadcasting
workshop for northeast area agents and specialists. This invitation is
also extended to those agents and specialists in the other four Research
and Extension areas, who missed, or can't make, the workshops conducted
in their areas, and would still like to participate. Please notify the
Northeast Area Research and Extension Office in Manhattan as soon as
possible, if you're planning to attend. Thanks for your interest.
RADIO BROADCASTING WORKSHOP FOR
COUNTY AGENTS
Thursday, March 8 - 1-4 p.m.
Northeast Area Research and Extension Center
1515 College Avenue
Manhattan
K-State Research and Extension Radio
Specialists Eric Atkinson and Randall Kowalik will be conducting these
three-hour workshops on utilizing radio, and internet audio, as part of
your regular communications efforts. There will be an open discussion
of:
*where radio fits into an agent's
activities
*how to access local and area radio broadcasts, and methods of
presenting information on radio
*what to do in preparation for a radio presentation
*effectively recording and distributing your own radio material to local
and area broadcast outlets
*how to interact with radio station personnel in a mutually beneficial
way
*how to deal with calls from broadcast reporters, and what to expect in
a live broadcast interview
*the future of radio as a communications tool, in light of the internet
*how...and if...locally-produced audio can be posted on a county
Extension web site as an effective means of communications
These workshops will encourage open
dialogue on these, and any other subjects pertaining to radio usage,
including the experiences of agents in attendance who have employed
radio in their careers. Any agents who have recorded samples of their
radio work are more than welcome to bring a tape in (preferably a
cassette) for critique. This is intended as a casual, informative
exchange of ideas on radio as a functional, practical and inexpensive
communications vehicle. --Eric Atkinson eatkinso@oznet.ksu.edu
