KAMS EXHIBITING AT MID-AMERICA FARM EXPO IN SALINA
The Kansas Agricultural Mediation Services (KAMS) will be exhibiting at the Mid-America Farm Expo March 27, 28 and 29 in at the Salina Bicentennial Center. KAMS provides information and assistance to the Kansas agricultural community through a toll-free telephone number, 1-800-321-FARM (3276). The program's goal is to use mediation to help resolve conflicts and disputes that a producer has with an agricultural lender or with a USDA agency. Financial and legal advisory services are available to help the participants prepare for mediation. The farm show provides an opportunity for the KAMS staff to meet Kansas farm families. If you are attending the Farm Expo, stop by and say hello! --Char Henton chenton@oznet.ksu.edu

OILSEED PRODUCTION SEMINAR-NORTON COUNTY
A seminar that will focus on oilseeds (canola, soybean and sunflower) will be held at the Norton County 4-H building in Norton, Monday, March 26, 10 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. A noon lunch will be served for a small fee. RSVP to Norton County Extension, 785-877-5755, by March 23. This seminar is primarily related to dryland Northwest Kansas production. We will have someone from NorthernSun in Goodland, the Soybean Association, KSU canola breeder,  and KSU specialists.

With all the oily talk we will slide right out the door when done. Come on down; it is too wet to do anything else!! --Keith VanSkike kvanskik@oznet.ksu.edu (work);  vanskike@us36.net (home)

REMINDER...
Just a reminder that the Retirement Celebration for Nancy Gafford will be Sunday Afternoon, April 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Valentino's in Seneca. Please try to send your cards or letters by March 23, so that we can start to compile our gift book. Cards, letters and gift contributions are still welcome after the 23rd! For directions to Valentinos or other questions, please contact me at dkey@oznet.ksu.edu . --David Key

DIRECTORY CORRECTIONS/CHANGES
The Atchison County Extension FNP office has moved to 751 S. 8th, Suite 222, Atchison KS 66002.  The new telephone number is 913-360-6194.

The area code has not changed for Ottawa County Extension. It is still 785, not 620 as shown in the new personnel directory.

HARVEST OF KNOWLEDGE HISTORICAL PROJECT COMPLETED
Harvest of Knowledge is a four-CD-ROM set that contains the full text and illustrations of nearly all of the publications from the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station, from its inception in 1888 until 1945, plus several more recent publications that deal with the history of our organization.

The collection includes more than 24,000 pages of publications on crops, pasture, gardening, foods, weeds, insects, diseases, livestock, machinery, buildings, soils, natural resources, farm economics and farm life. The original formatting has been preserved as much as possible. Also included is a gallery of more than 100 historic photos, and two audio presentations. Acrobat Reader software is included on the discs, for full-text searches.

The CD-ROM set costs $36.50 to the public and $27.25 for K-State and Kansas state agency (internal) customers. (That's about 50 cents per year of research!) It can be ordered through orderpub@lists.oznet.ksu.edu . Because this set was more expensive to produce than our Express CDs, we do not plan to send free copies to county offices and other employees. --Amy Hartman ahartman@oznet.ksus.edu

E-ANSWERS: CHECK YOUR LINKS AND BOOKMARKS!
ACE (Agricultural Communicators in Education) Members,
In the past week or so, many of you have had problems accessing the E-answers web site. Network Solutions, the company responsible for registering our domain name, has made a grievous mistake. They did not credit our renewal payment for the name, which was not even due until April, and instead gave the name to a site that contains adult material. Needless to say, we are very upset, and we are pursuing this matter with the highest levels of management of Network Solutions. I'm sorry that their problem has become all of ours. If you want to go directly to the E-Answers server, try http://128.227.242.197/ . We are attempting to resolve this as soon as possible.
Ron Thomas, E-Answers Web Coordinator

RETURNING 4-H APPLICATIONS AFTER STATE JUDGING
We had planned to return KAA's, non-winning scholarship applications, and reporters books to counties during the Spring Action Conferences. Since that is no longer possible, we will be sending them back to your Area Office with your area 4-H specialist after our April staff retreat. In addition to items that were judged, we will also be sending the knitting patterns that were requested back with your area 4-H specialist. They should be at the Area office by April 16.

If you have someone attending the "Coming Together for Kansas Families" professional development conference in Wichita that week, you may want to ask your Area office to bring them there to be picked up. Otherwise, we will leave it up to you and your Area Office to make arrangements for pick- up. --Steve Fisher  sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu

4-H PUBLICATION UPDATE
Things to consider as you prepare your 3rd Quarter Order Form, June New Pub Order Form and 4HCCS Special Order Form (coming soon).

1. Project Member Guides and Annual Reports - This record sheet is being developed for every project including those using 4HCCS material. It is designed for each member to use each year for goal setting and recording what they did and learned. The information is then readily available for transferring to Kansas Award Applications (KAA).

2. MG-35 Kansas 4-H Health, Code of Conduct and Photo Release Form - This revised form will be offered on a front and back single sheet for easy copying or downloading from the web. This new format will make it available each quarter via distribution or every day from the web. The old multi-carbon four copy form was not readily available due to it having to be printed off campus on a bid basis for each printing. This new format should be more economical since you can print or order the exact number needed by each member. New features of the revised form will include the photo release and an over-the-counter medication release.

3. Entomology - We are currently using 4HCCS material plus a Member guide (MG-47) and a new pub 4H829 4-H Entomology: Collecting and Exhibiting (June 2001 order form) that uses the last page of the old p1050 and revises 4H518 - State Fair Competition Checklist. Thus you should no longer need p1050 (old Entomology record) or 4H518. 4H280 4-H Entomology Leader's Guide is still available for those preferring it over the 4HCCS material.

4. Arts and Crafts B A Palette of Fun
This new 4HCCS Leader's Guide contains seven different units that will be listed on the new enrollment card and will replace the old Arts and Crafts project phases. Units included are:

1. Cutting and Pasting
2. Drawing
3. Painting
4. Sculpting
5. Printing
6. Fiber
7. 3-D Construction

This new material is great for after school programming too! Some counties may want to continue to offer ceramics, leather etc. under Arts and Crafts or Self-Determined; however, we do not have current resources for these options except from commercial sources.

5. Small Engines - Please note that the 4HCCS material recommends that this project not begin until age nine rather than age seven!

6. Sport Fishing - This will be a new project listing on the enrollment card that will be supported by the State Action Team for Training. Support materials will be 4H427 Lets Go Fishing and/or 4HCCS Fishing for Adventure. --Jim Adams jadams@oznet.ksu.edu
