KAE4-HA "KATCH PHRASE"
"We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. You need to be able to grow up by finding the opportunity in change. Last, have no regrets."

Extension gives us the opportunity to grow up through change. KAE4-HA is a great way to work together through change opportunities. Get involved with 4-H and Youth work as a member of KAE4-HA. Members gain ideas, resources and program knowledge. We offer associate, full-time and first time membership rates. Get in on the fun----have no regrets! --Andrea Schmidt aschmidt@oznet.ksu.edu

LEADERSHIP MINI-GRANTS
Congratulations to the following counties which have been awarded leadership mini-grants from the Huck Boyd Institute for Rural Development: Cloud, Gove, Jefferson, and Sheridan. The Huck Boyd Foundation is funding $200 mini-grants for each county to start an adult leadership program. In addition, special mini-grants are being awarded to Youth Leaders in Agriculture (YLA), a proposed program serving 4-H members in 24 counties of southwest Kansas; and the Sunflower Area Leadership Initiative, a series of leadership sessions for residents in eight counties of south central Kansas. YLA was developed by K-State Research and Extension in Haskell, Grant, and Kearny Counties. The Sunflower initiative is provided by Sunflower Resource Conservation and Development Area in Harper and the Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce. Mini-grant recipients will also receive a complementary registration to attend the Kansas Leadership Forum annual conference on September 19, 2001. We commend these grant recipients for their effort and initiative. --Ron  Wilson rwilson@oznet.ksu.edu

KANSAS RIVER YOUTH LEADERSHIP RECEIVES FUNDING
The Kansas River Youth Leadership has been awarded $22,500 from The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to expand their teen leadership experience. The Kansas River Youth Leadership Project offers teen leaders from four Kansas metropolitan counties an exciting experience which includes service learning projects and additional leadership opportunities.

KRYL is a joint effort between Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte Counties. The development and success of KRYL is driven by youth vision and leadership. The adults behind the scenes, who are helping to make it all happen are Beth Hecht, Leavenworth County; Al Davis, Johnson County; Michelle Crago, Wyandotte County; and Cathy Brockhoff, Douglas County.

Kansas River Youth Leadership has set the focus for the following year on the importance of service learning and contribution to community. The program will strive to have the youth involved in regional, state and national networking opportunities. KRYL will also share the project's experiences and model with national audiences and include youth from the community of Argentine in Kansas City, KS to participate in the project. --Jana Hackney jhackney@oznet.ksu.edu

JENNIE JAMES SELECTED FOR 2001 CSREES FELLOWS PROGRAM
Jennie James, Project Associate at Haskell Indian Nations University Native American Youth Extension has just received confirmation that she was selected to be a part of the 2001 Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service Fellows Program.
