KAE4-HA "KATCH" PHRASE
"Knowledge is like a garden: if it is not cultivated it cannot be harvested." - African proverb. . .. Doesn't that remind you of the K-State Research and Extension motto: Knowledge for Life?

KAE4-HA will be seeking your input on nominations for the National 4-H Hall of Fame. One hundred people from across the nation will be inducted into the Centennial Class of 2002 and each state can nominate up to three people. Be watching for more details.

Have an enjoyable summer - keep smiling throughout those County Fairs no matter how hot it gets! --Phyllis Kriesel pkriesel@oznet.ksu.edu

If you are in need of a column idea, writing about your own experiences getting ready for the fair might be fun. Or, perhaps you have a particular project that is memorable -- sharing a little about why you chose the project, how you completed it, and what you learned from it might be a nice way to plug some of the benefits that can come from 4-H/fair participation.

If you didn't participate in a county fair during your growing up years, perhaps you would like to write about your experiences at your first county fair, or, as an agent, your first fair in your county.

Another idea: How one or more judges (or adult mentors) influenced your life.

I hope these ideas will be helpful to you. --Nancy Peterson npeterso@oznet.ksu.edu

MANUFACTURERS OF STRAW-BOARD IN KANSAS?
Does anyone have the name and personal contact information for the manufacturers of straw-board in Kansas? This involves the conversion of wheat straw to a lumber substitute much like particle board. We have been contacted by a Missouri extension engineer who would like to tour such a facility, but I don't have any idea where these facilities may be located. Any assistance would be appreciated. Please feel free to call or send information to my email. Thanks in advance. --Sherry J. Davis sdavis@oznet.ksu.edu

PUBLICATIONS/PRODUCTION SERVICES UPDATE
New Infestation of 'Insects' Coming
The first printing of the current edition of "Insects in Kansas," S131, is a sell-out! However, a new print run -- twice the size of the first one -- is expected to hatch and begin flying out of the Distribution Center by late summer.

The book, which features more than 900 detailed color photographs and an index of common and scientific names, was published in December 2000 in cooperation with the Kansas Department of Agriculture. KDA entomologists/editors Steve White and Glenn Salsbury have been interviewed for articles by The Associated Press, The Topeka Capital-Journal, The Joplin Globe and the Lawrence Journal-World.

Orders may be placed now and will be filled as soon as the book is printed. Order via e-mail from orderpub@lists.oznet.ksu.edu ; fax 785-532-7938; or phone 785-532-5830. Internal price is $18.66 plus shipping. External customers pay $25 plus shipping and tax (if applicable). All orders for this publication are shipped via UPS, so a street address is required for delivery.

Correction
The item number for the revised publication "Iron Chlorosis in Trees" was printed incorrectly on the October 2001 order form. The item should have been listed as MF-718. We regret the error and any inconvenience. Please remember that orders for items listed on that form are due by August 1. --Nancy Peavler npeavler@oznet.ksu.edu
