VOLUNTEERS REQUESTED TO HELP IN OUR BOOTHS AT KANSAS STATE FAIR
The College of Agriculture, the College of Human Ecology, and K-State Research and Extension will once again have adjoining booths in the Pride of Kansas Building at the Kansas State Fair. The fair runs from Friday, September 7, through Sunday, September 16, 2001.

We had good response to our note in May but need to fill the rest of the schedule soon before the fair starts. We will need people to work in the three booths on both Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and the last Sunday from 9 a.m. to  7 p.m.

Sedgwick County has volunteered to man the K-State Research and Extension booth all day on Tuesday, September 11. What about some other offices taking a day?

We would appreciate faculty and staff from campus, counties, Agronomy Fields, and Research-Extension Centers going to the fair and working for several hours on any one day. Also, we would appreciate agents and/or faculty, who are going to the fair anyway, signing up to work a couple hours in the booth before or after your activities. It is fun sharing information about our colleges and organization.

If you would like to work in one or more of the booths, please contact Janet Wenderott at 785-532-5729 or jwendero@oznet.ksu.edu  by August 31. Please tell her which booth you want to work in and which day and times are best for you. We will be in touch soon afterward with the final schedule plus send tickets, work out transportation, etc.

Thank you for your assistance. See you at the Kansas State Fair. --Jackie McClaskey, Cara Richardson, Steven Graham

ADEC DISTANCE EDUCATION AWARD
The ADEC Distance Education Consortium, of which K-State Research and Extension and the College of Agriculture is a member, presents a trophy and $5,000 to the program which best demonstrates excellence in distance education.  A team that has a significant distance education effort should look at the Team Award information and application process at www.adec.edu/whats-new.html . The initial nominations are due September 28, 2001. --Dick Wootton rwootton@oznet.ksu.edu

COPIES OF BY-LAWS OF 4-H FOUNDATIONS AND 4-H COUNCILS NEEDED
The Geary County Extension office has formed committees to explore the formation of a 4-H Foundation and a 4-H Council. We would like to have copies of by-laws of 4-H Foundations and 4-H Councils from as many counties as possible. The committees are also interested in learning of any special circumstances or considerations that resulted in the by-laws being written as they are. Any other general comments would be appreciated.

Please send copies of by-laws for 4-H Foundations and 4-H Councils to Donna Martinson, Geary County Extension Office, Box 28, Junction City, KS 66441. Thanks in advance for your help. --Donna Martinson dmartins@oznet.ksu.edu

DOG CARE AND TRAINING QUIZ BOWL COUNTIES
This information is for all counties planning to send 4-H members to the Annual Dog Conference at Rock Springs on November 3-4!! Due to the revisions of the Dog Show Rule Books and the use of the Dog Care and Training Leader Notebook, we are in need of new documented questions for the annual quiz bowl. We are asking each county to send 20 questions by September 15, to the State 4-H Office or give them to Jim Adams at the State Fair!!

Please document the name of the rule book and page number where the answer can be found. Questions from the Leader Notebook should list the level and page number. This will help immensely in getting our quiz bowl question database up-to-date!! Thanks for your help. Jim Adams jadams@oznet.ksu.edu
