NATIONAL STUDY
REPORTS: BENEFITS OF 4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Packets that report the results of the first effort of the National
4-H Impact Assessment Project will be available in each county/district's
"Pottorf Hall Pick-up." This perceptual study was conducted with
a stratified, random sample of 4-H Youth Development participants in the
four major delivery modes of 4-H. Your packet will include two items: A
longer (stapled) booklet that gives agents, the professionals, a quick
overview of the methodology. Copies of the briefer "highlight"
report (single fold) are included for agents, extension board members,
your program development council responsible for 4-H youth development
planning, and your county commissioners/county executive, where
applicable. I encourage you to use these highlight reports to provide
evidence to your local funding partner and planning representatives of the
positive outcomes resulting from their investments in Extension 4-H Youth
Development. A detailed report is available with instrumentation for those
wanting to replicate the study at the local level. Please contact me if
you would like further details. --Gary W. Gerhard ggerhard@oznet.ksu.edu
DISCUSSION GROUP FOR 4-H PROGRAMMING
IN AFTER SCHOOL SITES
Are you interested in discussing issues related to 4-H Youth Development
Programming in after school sites? We invite you to attend a discussion
of this topic during Annual Conference. We will meet Monday, October 15,
5:30 p.m., in Room 206 of the K-State Union.
In August, a group of extension
professionals traveled to Tulsa County Oklahoma to see, first hand,
their programming efforts. One key component of the trip was the idea to
develop a Kansas resource modeled after those used in Tulsa County.
Please join us. Bring ideas and resources
that you use. For more information, contact Diane Mack, NE Area 4-H
Youth Development Specialist, at dmack@oznet.ksu.edu

2001 AEROSPACE EXPERIENCE
This is an update and reminder of the 2001 Aerospace Experience to be
held in Hutchinson, Kansas at the Cosmosphere and Space Center, November
15-18, 2001. We still have openings for youth who would like to attend.
We are asking for a quick response to this reminder so enough time is
allowed to order our T-Shirts. We will accept any numbers of individuals
from counties throughout the state.
There will be two levels of instruction
and experiences. Level I is for first year participants. Youth will
build a telescope, observe the constellations and have planetarium
studies, build and launch rockets, microgravity experiments and
robotics. Level II will experience astronomical topics such as the solar
system, the asteroid belt, make a robot to take home and a telescope for
viewing and other aerospace activities.
A high powered Rocket Blast will take
place with youth bringing their rockets to fire off. Entertainment will
be enjoyed by all youth and sponsors.
For further information, look at the web
site at www.oznet.ksu.edu/nwao
