STATE BENEFITS OPEN ENROLLMENT UPDATE
The 2002 Open Enrollment booklet and the comparison chart on the Division of Personnel Services website show that the Vision Service Plan - Enhanced, allows the participant a $150 allowance toward the cost of contact lens evaluation exam, fitting costs and materials every 24 months.

The Division of Personnel Services has advised us that both documents are incorrect. The correct information is "under the Enhanced Plan, the patient is eligible to receive either spectacle lenses or contact lenses once every 12 months. The contact lens allowance is $150 if seen by a VSP doctor and $105 if seen by a non-VSP doctor. If they purchase contacts, they are not eligible for frames for two years from the date of the last pair of contacts purchased."

Questions should be addressed to Ms. R. J. Steelsmith, Division of Human Resources, at 785-532-6277. --Joe Younger jyounger@ksu.edu

REQUEST FOR FUNDING PROPOSALS FOR NONPOINT SOURCE CONTROL PROJECTS
Proposals are now being accepted for nonpoint source pollution control projects to be funded by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE). The funding source is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) federal fiscal year 2002 grant from Section 319 of the Clean Water Act. The application is available online at KDHE's website: www.kdhe.state.ks.us/nps/index.html#resources

The web site also contains instructions for completing the application, as well as the conditions under which the grant will be awarded. Proposals received before December 31, 2001 will receive first consideration. The total amount of funds that will be available has not been determined. Projects should have implementation schedules and budgets beginning on or after July 1, 2002. Proposals that directly address the following priorities will receive more favorable consideration: 1) Implementation of watershed restoration and protection plans; 2) Projects which implement completed Total Maximum Daily Load plans; and 3) Projects which result in protection of public water supplies.
