IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT HEALTH INSURANCE AND KANELECT OPEN ENROLLMENT
Any employee who would like to change their health insurance plan for 2002 and/or enroll in the KanElect Flexible Spending Account (health care and/or dependent care) must do so by October 31, 2001 - the end of the open enrollment period.

To accomplish this, you will need to access the on-line benefits enrollment program known as AKSESS http://da.state.ks.us/aksess , use your password that the State of Kansas personnel office mailed to your
home address in early October, and begin your selections.

If you have any questions at all, please call the Division of Human Resources at 785-532-6277. --Joe Younger

INFORMATION FOR FACULTY WITH FEDERAL BENEFITS
Please note that the October 31 deadline discussed above for enrollment in KanElect DOES apply to those with federal benefits. However, the October 31 deadline for changing health insurance DOES NOT apply to those with federal benefits.

The Open Season for Federal Employee Health Benefits will be November 12 to December 10 and information will be sent as soon as it is available. --Stacey M. Warner swarner@oznet.ksu.edu

COUNTY TRADE PULL FACTOR REPORT AVAILABLE
The new (2001) County Trade Pull Factor Report is now available on my web site. Go to www.agecon.ksu.edu

The report provides three measures of retail activity for all 105 counties in Kansas. The report is of interest to a wide audience in every county such as elected officials, economic development professionals, bankers, and retailers. --David L. Darling ddarling@loki.agecon.ksu.edu

OFFICE OF COMMUNITY HEALTH AND ATCHISON/LEAVENWORTH COUNTY PARTNERSHIP
The Office of Community Health and Atchison/Leavenworth Counties are working together on an outcome evaluation of the Out-of-School 4-H Youth Program (Urban 4-H). This initiative is funded by the First Judicial District through prevention funds allocated by the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority.

Beth Hecht, Diane Nielson and Angela Mueller were instrumental in requesting additional funding from their local Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board to support this science based evaluation process. They have contracted with The Office of Community Health to assist in the evaluation by developing evaluation tools, evaluating the after-school sites, analyzing the data and reporting outcomes related to this 4-H expansion program.

The Out-of-School 4-H program (Urban 4-H) is focusing on increasing opportunities for supervised productive activities for youth during after school time and reducing favorable attitudes toward alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. --Jana Hackney jhackney@oznet.ksu.edu

SUBMIT YOUR BEST WORK TO BE PART OF "OUR COLLECTIVE WORK!"
Would you like to submit your best work in the field of youth, family and community development programming for possible inclusion in the "Our Collective Work: Youth Development through 4-H Opportunities" guide? This guide is being put together by a task force to highlight the exceptional work that is occurring through 4-H opportunities in Kansas.

We encourage you to send us your best work. All you need to do is to write a brief one page narrative (this can be hand written) and to complete the checklist that was attached to the letter you received. The checklist is a great way to see if your program contains the components for success and is a tool to help create good thinking. You DO NOT need to check yes in each category for your work to be considered for inclusion in the guide.

All exceptional work that is done through 4-H opportunities is eligible to be included. (Examples: 4-H clubs, after school programs, expanded community clubs, youth leadership groups, etc.) The deadline is fast approaching: November 1. If you need another copy of the letter or more information please contact Jana Hackney at 532-0768, or Elaine Johannes at 785-532-7720. --Jana Hackney jhackney@oznet.ksu.edu
