NORTHERN FLINT HILLS AUDUBON SOCIETY
NOVEMBER PROGRAM
The Northern Flint Hills Audubon Society will meet Wednesday,
November 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1014 Throckmorton Hall, Kansas State
University. Chuck Otte of Geary County Extension will speak about the
Conservation and Reinvestment Act (CARA) in a talk entitled: "Why
you should care about CARA." Briefly, CARA is an attempt to secure
long term funding for state, federal and local conservation programs
such as wildlife restoration, parks and outdoor recreation, coastal
conservation and historic preservation. If passed in its current form,
it would provide $3.1 billion annually for 15 years. Kansas would
receive several million of that annually.
We will discuss the history and current
status of the CARA legislation, what it could mean to Kansas and how
some of the money might be used within the state. The discussion will
include CARA's potential interaction with the recently adopted Kansas
Wildlife Diversity Plan. --Judy Roe jroe@ksu.edu
