LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Phase I will occur June 22-27, 2002, at the University Place Executive Conference Center and Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana. Phase II, the resident internship portion of the program, will be from July 2002 through the spring of 2003. Phase III will be conducted as a two-day program, Spring 2003, in the Washington D. C. area to coincide with the spring NASULGC meeting and Capitol Hill visits. To date, 14 K-State faculty have participated in the program: Kris Boone, Daryl Buchholz, Ted Cable, Rebecca Gould, Randy Higgins, Ray Lamond, Denis Medeiros, Dave Mengel, Gary Pierzynski, Mickey Ransom, Alan Schlegel, Mike Smith, Phil Stahlman, and Dan Sweeney. To be considered as potential candidates, completed application forms must be submitted to the Office of Planning and Reporting by December 14, 2001. FARM FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS The period of study may range from one semester to one year. The applicant's qualifications and needs determine the award amounts. The maximum award is $5,500. Farm Foundation must receive the applications, letter of recommendation from state extension directors/administrator or federal supervisor, and two additional letters of recommendations, postmarked by March 1, 2002. AWARD NOMINATIONS NEEDED
RURAL POLICY SYMPOSIUM Some say that rural depopulation is making the Buffalo Commons a reality, as proposed by the Poppers in 1987. This symposium will focus on how rural Kansas can succeed, given the demographic challenges portrayed in the most recent census results. Announcing the 2001 Rural Policy Symposium , 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2001. K- State Research and Extension cosponsors this annual event with a consortium of organizations. The program includes national experts, panels of local leaders and state legislators, and Congressman Jerry Moran. New this year are additional opportunities to participate in the symposium electronically. The symposium program will be held in the Hansen Little Theatre in the K-State Union and videoconferenced with the Huck Boyd Community Center in Phillipsburg and the Dodge City Community College. You can attend any of these locations, or you can listen to the symposium from your computer via streaming audio over the Internet. Click on Resource Center (under the header) to go to the home page. You may make your choice of media listed, then search by title or author. The lists are alphabetical by title. The control number in the catalog of audio-video cassettes has a letter in front of the number to signify whether audio (A) or video (V) cassette. The Resource Center Request Form is also available on this home page. CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY COURSES OFFERED
BY KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY The classroom technology master's degree specialty in elementary and secondary education offers instruction on using technology appropriately, designing projects for use in the classroom, adapting instructional strategies to connect with various student-learning preferences and developing learning experiences that challenge students to be critical thinkers. The curriculum includes courses such as "Enhancing Instruction through Technology" and "Multicultural Classroom Internet Resources." The courses may be taken for graduate credit. KANSAS FOREST SERVICE, KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Description: Provides assistance to private landowners, communities, organizations, businesses and other governmental agencies in forest management, tree planting, community forestry, insect and disease management and forest inventory. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in forestry from a SAF accredited college or university. Ability to conduct a full service field forestry program under limited supervision; work effectively with others; organize work priorities and carry them out; and communicate effectively. Computer skills such as database and word processing. Valid drivers license. Salary: Minimum of $28,000. Salary varies depending upon education and experience.
