INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE
Five college students will have the opportunity to serve as K-State
Research and Extension interns from June 2, to August 3, 2002. County or
district offices that are interested in hosting an intern should watch
their mail in the next few days for information on the program. The
salary and benefits for the interns will be shared by the county and
K-State Research and Extension (approximately $1800 each). Brief
proposals from interested counties will be due on Friday, February 22.

NEW WEBSITE FOR SMALL BUSINESSES AND
THEIR LEGAL QUESTIONS
A new Small Business Administration (SBA) Website has been created
to assist small businesses with their legal and regulatory questions.
The Website is www.businesslaw.gov
.
The site has lots of good information
including: Starting a business, Managing finances, Handling employees,
Doing business, and Getting out of business. Other things on the site
are: State and Local Information, Federal Regulatory Information,
Getting Legal Help, SBA News, Tools, Laws and Regulations, and even
information for contacting your Congressman. It is a fairly
comprehensive site.
If you have a small business in your
county that could use this help or know of someone contemplating
starting a small business, please suggest they check out this new Website. --Steven Graham sgraham@oznet.ksu.edu
HELP AVAILABLE TO SMALL BUSINESSES
IMPACTED BY EVENTS OF 9/11
If you have a small business in your county that somehow has been
impacted by the events of 9/11, there may be help available for that
business from the Small Business Administration (SBA).
The purpose of the SBA's expanded
Economic Injury Disaster Loan program is to provide funds to an eligible
small business to meet its ordinary and necessary operating expenses
that it could have met, but is unable to meet as a direct result of the
destruction of the World Trade Center or damage to the Pentagon on
September 11, 2001, or as a direct result of any Federal action taken
between September 11, 2001 and the effective date (October 22, 2001) of
the regulations implementing this program.
A business which lost sales, has a key
employee serving in the Reserves, or was in some way impacted by the
events of 9/11 should visit the SBA Website: www.sba.gov/disaster
or call 1-800-366-6303 for more information. This program ends on April
22, 2002, so encourage any impacted businesses to act quickly. --Steven
