EARLY REGISTRATION
DEADLINE IS TODAY
The 14th Annual Community Economic Development Conference is scheduled for
April 9-10, 2002, at the Holiday Inn Holidome in Salina. The theme for
this year’s conference is “Coalition Building: Community Partnerships
Work,” which focuses on partnerships and alliances and how they could
benefit the community. The focus will be on coalition building through
consolidation of resources for optimizing and improving economic
development in Kansas. You can find out more about the KCCED conference at

Registrations for the conference are
already underway. Online registration can also be done, so your
registration is received instantly. For registration information, you can

. The conference registration fee is $90 for both days, or $60 for a
single day registration. The registration fee after 5 p.m., April 2, 2002,

LOCALLY RAISED FOOD DIRECTORY
ENROLLMENT
Kansas producers who direct market foods can enroll in the on-line
Locally Raised Food Directory database from the KCSAAC Website at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/kcsaac/fooddirectory/welcome.asp
, beginning April 6. Enrolling in the directory is free, takes less than
10 minutes and will allow farmers and ranchers to connect with the
consumers in their area and throughout Kansas who are demanding their
products. The updateable on-line database has been created through a
partnership of the Kansas Center for Sustainable Agriculture and
Alternative Crops and the Kansas Rural Center.

BARRY FLINCHBAUGH RECOGNIZED BY WHEAT
GROWERS
Dr. Barry Flinchbaugh, Professor and State Extension Leader,
Agricultural Economics, was recently awarded the National Association of
Wheat Grower's Foundation Award for Outstanding Extension Programs that
benefit wheat growers and the U.S. Wheat Industry.

HONORED AT MIDWEST MEETINGS
Dr. Michael Brouk, Assistant Professor, Dairy Production and Management,
was honored as the Outstanding Young Scientist - Extension, at the annual
business meeting for the Midwest Section of the American Dairy Science
Association / American Society of Animal Science on Wednesday, March 20,
2002.

REMINDER - FAIR
JUDGES CLINICS
Fair Judges Clinics at three northeast Kansas locations will take place
during April. The Clinics will help individuals who judge at fairs and
other events fine tune their consultation judging skills, learn technical
evaluation skills, and share ideas and suggestions with others. 4-H
projects included in the 2002 round of clinics are woodworking, foods,
arts and crafts, and photography. Individuals who have not judged
previously, experienced judges, and those with a hobby in those projects
are encouraged to attend. The Clinics at all three sites run from
6:30-9:00 p.m. and have a registration fee of $5. Clinic sites and dates
are April 11, Wamego Middle School (registration deadline April 4); April
16, Junction City Immanuel Lutheran Church/School (deadline April 9); and
April 22, Marysville Good Shepherd's Lutheran School (deadline April 15).

NATIONAL ARBOR DAY POSTER CONTEST ANNOUNCED
The Kansas Forest Service is proud to announce the Kansas winner of
the National Arbor Day Poster Contest is Shelby Koons of Hillsboro. Shelby

TELENET 2 COURSES
OFFERED FOR SUMMER AND FALL 2002
New TELENET 2 courses are being offered for summer and fall 2002.
TELENET 2 is a distance education videoconferencing network with 28 Kansas
classrooms. Reducing travel time and costs by bringing credit courses and
other programming to convenient locations, TELENET 2 makes it more
convenient for students throughout Kansas to take selected university
courses from Emporia State, Fort Hays State and Kansas State Universities.
This summer, 17 courses are being offered
via TELENET 2, in addition to the 13 courses being offered in fall of
2002. Courses will be offered in various studies, including education,
educational administration, nursing, library science, history, English,
psychology, family studies and more.
