LIFE'S
TAPESTRIES: SECURING THE PAST FOR THE FUTURE
Sponsored by K-State Research
& Extension, the Department of Apparel, Textiles and Interior
Design, and the Kansas Museum Association, this statewide Textile
Conservation Workshop will focus on scientifically based conservation
practices and techniques. Using selected museum artifacts in a
laboratory setting will enrich the learning experience and provide
hands-on technical training for attendees. The workshop is designed to
meet the needs of extension educators, museum personnel, historical
society members, and private collectors looking for practical methods
when caring for objects of value.
The workshop extends
the Life's Tapestries: Securing the past for the future
programming by providing participants in-depth knowledge of fiber
identification, properties, cause and effect of deterioration,
environmental factors for storage and display needs, and wet-cleaning
procedures.
Days 1 and 2 will
cover Conservation Practices and Techniques outlined above, while Day 3
will focus on Exhibit Design and Visual Presentation, though the
techniques are appropriate for any setting or use.
A fee of $175 for
Days 1, 2, and 3 covers workshop materials and notebook, breakfast,
lunch and snack breaks. For those attending only Days 1 & 2,
Conservation Practices and Techniques, fees are $125. If you wish
to attend Day 3 only, Exhibit Design and Visual Presentation, the fee is
$75.
