PLANT DISEASE DIAGNOSTIC LAB CLOSURE - JULY 29-AUGUST 2, 2002
Due to the National American Phytopathological Society meetings, our Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab will be closed the week of July 29-August 2. Please do not send samples after July 24. If samples are received after this date, they may deteriorate and you may be asked to resubmit.

Thanks for your patience during this time. --Judy O'Mara omara@plantpath.ksu.edu

NEW MAILING REGULATION FOR LARGER PACKAGES
For security reasons, mail items weighing 16 oz. or more must be taken directly to the local post office and delivered to a mail clerk for mailing if you wish to use postage stamps. This regulation does not apply to packages which have been metered electronically. --Stacey M. Warner swarner@oznet.ksu.edu

DROUGHT RESOURCE PAGE
As drought conditions worsen in Kansas, remember K-State Research and Extension has information available on-line at the Drought Resource page: www.oznet.ksu.edu/drought .

If agents or specialists have something that they would like featured on the Drought Resource page, they can contact Mary Knapp at Mknapp@oznet.ksu.edu . --Mary Knapp

OZNET ACCOUNT POLICY CHANGE
In preparation for KEAS, the K-State Enterprise Authentication System, OzNet has changed its account naming policy. Beginning July 22, OzNet account usernames will be the same as the person's K-State computing ID. We realize some Research and Extension employees are not allowed to have K-State computing IDs and the old naming policies will remain in effect for these people. Current account holders will not be affected by this policy at this time. Synchronization of the account usernames and K-State computing IDs will not happen until Mid-2003.

KEAS will serve as a centrally managed system of computing user IDs for the campus and all off-campus sites. The computing IDs of today's system in the future will be known as eIDs, a more advanced form of the current computing IDs. KEAS will affect all K-State Research and Extension employees, but should provide greater conveniences for the holders of eIDs in the future.

More detailed information about KEAS and the policy change can be found at http://accounts.oznet.ksu.edu/keas/  or you may contact Kat Burton at kburton@oznet.ksu.edu . --Kathryn Burton kburton@oznet.ksu.edu

KANSAS PRECISION AGRICULTURE FIELD DAY
Positioning Agriculture for the Future will be held August 13, 2002, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the East Crawford Recreation Area in Salina. Reservations can be made by e-mailing me at rktaylor@ksu.edu or by calling 785-532-2931.  Everyone attending must have a reservation.  There is no registration fee for K-State Research and Extension faculty/staff.  The registration fee for all others is $20.

Precision agriculture technologies are quickly becoming an integral part of crop production. However, as these technologies evolve, many producers are struggling to see the potential benefits and thus are hesitant to adopt them. K-State Research and Extension, the Kansas Agricultural Research Association and several prominent companies have come together to sponsor a field day to educate crop producers and agribusiness of the potential benefits of precision agriculture technologies.

Participants will learn from individuals who have developed, evaluated, and used the technologies. There will be a special demonstration area where participants have an opportunity to operate many of the premier guidance systems available today. As a special highlight, three automatically steered tractors will be demonstrated.

If you are considering precision agriculture technologies for your farm, you should attend this event. It has been designed to be “hands-on” and very applied in nature. A special “Field Tent” will be used for the soil sampling and yield variability sessions where participants will spend time looking at soils. --Randy Taylor rktaylor@ksu.edu

YOU ARE INVITED
