NEW LONG TERM CARE PROVIDER
The Kansas State Employees Health Care Commission (HCC) has approved MedAmerica as the new Long Term Care coverage provider for the Kansas State Employees Long Term Care Program. All employees and retirees of the State of Kansas, their spouses, children, siblings, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents and grandparents-in-law are eligible to apply for coverage. Formerly, this program was administered through a contract with Hartford Life Insurance Company. The HCC has also approved important plan design changes that continue to keep this program cost effective, up-to-date, and quality focused.

Since this is a provider and plan design change, the HCC is offering active employees a one-time open enrollment period for the Long Term Care Program, to be held from August 1 through September 30, 2002. Thereafter eligible employees can still apply for Long Term Care coverage using an expanded underwriting process.

To help better inform eligible and current program participants, MedAmerica is developing a website to explain the new program. The website will be available after July 18, 2002. You may access the website at: www.ltc-kansas.com . MedAmerica may also be contacted at 1-877-212-6066 beginning August 1, 2002.

The KSU Division of Human Resources and the State of Kansas Division of Personnel Services are jointly hosting two Long Term Care seminars on August 13, 2002 - one at 10:00 a.m. and a duplicate at 1:30 p.m., both in K-State Student Union room 212. A representative from MedAmerica will conduct the one hour seminar, and outline the new Long Term Care plan provisions. To enroll in one of these seminars please RSVP on the web at: www.ltc-kansas.com .

Questions should be addressed to the KSU Division of Human Resources at 785-532-6277.

FEDERAL EMPLOYEES PLEASE NOTE - You are eligible for either the State or Federal Long Term Care Program. You should have recently received a letter at your office regarding the Federal Long Term Care Program. The open season for the Federal program began July 1, and runs through December 31, 2002. --Stacey M. Warner swarner@oznet.ksu.edu

KSF FOOD PRESERVATION LABELS
The label that is required for exhibiting in the 4-H Division of Food Preservation cannot be ordered from any source that I know about. Since PSI has been added as a requirement, I suggest that you make your own label using a standard mailing label. If your label format will only take 4 lines, omit the "address," and use abbreviations where appropriate to make it fit, using the description on page 200 of the 2002 Kansas State Fair Exhibitor Handbook.

Those who have a supply of the standard canning labels available from the national 4-H Source Book, can add "PSI" wherever you can find the room on the label, if you want. --Steve Fisher sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu

4-H HISTORY
With the National and Kansas 4-H Centennial on our minds, this Iowa State website provides some very interesting and useful information for the early 4-H movement nationally. It also has a lot of Iowa specific information, but I recommend that you check the "Kansas 4-H History: 1906-1993," by Merle Eyestone and  Betty Lou Denton for Kansas history. This book was placed in each County Extension office and in local libraries when it was published. It also can be ordered from the Kansas 4-H Foundation. Check out this site from Iowa State: http://www.exnet.iastate.edu/4H/history.html . --Steve Fisher sfisher@oznet.ksu.edu
