CHANGE IN MILEAGE RATE
Effective November 20, 2002, the State Department of Administration in Topeka has issued notice that the rate for using a privately owned vehicle when a state owned vehicle is available has changed. The rate is now 26 cents per mile, up from 22 cents per mile. All other rates will remain the same and can be viewed at: http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/operations/travel.htm . --Stacey M. RETIREMENT CELEBRATION FOR PHYLLIS HOWERTON
Phyllis will be retiring at the end of 2002 after 36 years as a FACS agent in Reno County.

Please join us as we celebrate her contributions to K-State Research and Extension and Reno County and wish her enjoyment and relaxation for the future. We will host a reception on Sunday, December 8, from 2 - 4 p.m., at Park Place Christian Church, 26th and Adams, Hutchinson. WATER FESTIVAL RESOURCES
KDHE is collecting ideas to make up a "Water Celebration Packet" of resources. We know that some counties have used water models and other environmental hands-on activities in their programming. STATE 4-H DOG CONFERENCE HAS RECORD ATTENDANCE
Nearly 200 members and leaders attended this year's conference held at Rock Springs State 4-H Center. Participants saw a Search Dog demonstration and worked with their dogs in a Showmanship and Obedience Clinic. Thirty teams entered the quiz bowl. First place team was the Chihuahuas consisting of Bruce Johnson, Sedgwick County; Erin Doughty, Miami County; and Sara Smith, Leavenworth County. Second place went to the Welsh Corgi team of Afton Eye, Pawnee County; Shandon Hoobler, Atchison County; Emily Jardine, Riley County; and Samantha Belsan, Shawnee County. --James P. 4-H COUNTY FAIR DISPLAYS

EXTENSION NUTRITION PROGRAM ASSISTANT
K-State Research and Extension, Republic and Washington Counties, is seeking a program assistant to assist with teaching and promoting the Family Nutrition Program (FNP) and make contacts with low income families and individuals as well as social service agencies and schools for referrals. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, or closely related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
