PROGRAM JUSTIFICATION STATEMENTS -- YOUR CHANCE TO COMMENT
Faculty: We thank you for your responses to Survey 1 of Faculty Perceptions of Program Prioritization Criteria. 299 people responded. You may view the full document and responses at http://intranet.oznet.ksu.edu/prioritize .

Our next request is that you comment on any of the draft two-page program justification statements developed using the program criteria reviewed in Survey 1. Please go to http://intranet.oznet.ksu.edu/prioritize , locate any program(s) of interest, and provide comments or recommendations about any of the programs, including comments on the priority level (essential, very important, or important) of the programs. Please complete your responses by February 7, 2003.

The authors of the draft justification statements will then use your suggestions to revise each statement. The revised drafts will again be posted to an intranet site later in February for further administrator and faculty comment. --C. Michael Smith msmith@oznet.ksu.edu , and Mike Bradshaw mbradsha@oznet.ksu.edu

FIVE YEAR PLAN
Progress
If you have not visited the 5-yr plan web site recently, you might want to stop by and offer comments. Draft strategy statements are being posted that reflect the work of more people becoming involved in the process. Leaders of the Long-Term Intended Outcome (LTIO) Teams are inviting colleagues known to be interested in these topics to help with developing the 1 1/2 page descriptive summaries for each of the three to five (sometimes more) draft strategies accompanying each LTIO. As of this writing, first draft strategies for LTIOs 5, 8, 10, 11, and 12 had been posted within our Intranet 5-yr plan web site. More should be added in the near future. Please volunteer your ideas or contribute to the writing if you are asked to serve on one of these teams. The products of this effort will be shared internally and externally with constituent groups to gather key feedback. --Randy Higgins, rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu ; Forrest Chumley, fchumley@oznet.ksu.edu ; Larry Erpelding, lerpeldi@oznet.ksu.edu

Additional Exposure
The five-year plan feedback sheet was distributed to agents, county board chairs, administrators, and others attending the five Area Partnership meetings that took place during the last two weeks as we traveled around the state. Randy Higgins presented a brief --- why we're engaged in this process/how you can have input --- commentary as those in the audience reviewed some of our work to date. Marie Blythe's e-mail address was included on the feedback form along with the original mission statement, our five draft CMTs, and our 12 LTIOs (16 when the COAs teaching outcomes are counted). Thus, our message has reached an additional group of Kansans. Several attendees shared comments that indicate we are following a useful path. Those comments followed Marc Johnson's "State of the Partnership -- Discovering Our Future," and Daryl Buchholz's "Funds Development," (revenue generation, etc) messages. –Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu

KANSAS FARM SERVICE AGENCY (FSA) REQUESTING ASSISTANCE
Trish Halstead, USDA Kansas Farm Service Agency, is requesting your assistance to notify all Kansas farmers and ranchers of the April 1 deadline to select acreage bases and crop yields for the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program.

There are only two more months until the April 1 deadline. Currently there are still an estimated 67,584 of the total 112,742 farms in Kansas that have not selected their bases and yields. The bases and yields will be effective through 2007 crop year, so this is a very important decision for Kansas landowners. --Steven Graham sgraham@oznet.ksu.edu
