Three to six strategies within each long-term intended outcome are being identified by the five-year plan steering committee in concert with interested faculty. Action teams of faculty interested in common subjects are now being asked to accept or modify the draft strategies. Several draft strategies have been posted to the web site for review. FIRE TRAINING
SPECIALIST, KANSAS FOREST SERVICE, KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Description: Coordinate and deliver wildland fire training to volunteer firefighters and other state, federal and career emergency responders statewide; develop new course curricula and support manuals/videos for training; assist with administration of wildland fire qualifications system with an opportunity to take part in state and national mobilizations; cooperate with state and local agencies and organizations involved in wildland fire protection; and assist with other programs such as federal excess property, cost-share and master fire planning, as needed.. Minimum Qualifications: Four years of wildland fire suppression and prevention training and/or experience required. B.S. degree in forestry or closely related field of study and four years of experience in wildland fire suppression and prevention preferred. Single Resource Boss (Crew Boss, Engine Boss) preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse clientele and organize work priorities and carry them to completion. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing, plus skill in giving presentations. Knowledge of Incident Command System. Skill in use of computer software programs and audio-visual equipment. Ability to work in a team setting. Willingness to travel frequently in state and out-of-state. Valid drivers license. Salary: Minimum - $32,000 - salary varies depending upon education and experience.
