SHARING OF MAILING LISTS AND E-MAIL LISTSERVS
Mailing lists that are maintained by your offices and within the system are for the sole use of Extension personnel in their educational programming and are not to be furnished to any other person, firm, association or government agency unless authorized by the Director or Associate Director.

E-mail listservs should also be protected from use by any other person, firm, association, or government agency unless authorized by the Director. Do not give out listserv addresses to employees or anyone other than those intended for that listserv purpose. Obviously, some listservs do include individuals who are not employees. Those individuals should also be made aware that the listservs are for the furtherance of the educational mission only. Advertising and solicitations through such listservs is expressly prohibited.

If another organization has information that you feel would enhance the educational mission of K-State Research and Extension, the information could be distributed through means other than giving a mailing list or e-mail listserv to the entity. Examples might include handing out information at meetings, distributing the information to volunteers or adding a short article to a newsletter, etc. --Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu

4-H STRATEGIC PLANNING UPDATE
The 4-H Strategic Planning Committee met on Wednesday, May 28, to begin the process of defining the major goals for Kansas 4-H Youth Development Program. In this first meeting, the process was one of becoming familiar with those endearing principles upon which the 4-H experience is built. The group did work towards embracing of a vision and mission for Kansas 4-H in the 21st Century, and began to look at those environmental forces affecting society today. Such information, along with looking at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the Kansas 4-H Program, will provide guidance in developing that broad set of goals for the future.

Those goals will represent the road map for the future of Kansas 4-H programs. Following development and concurrence of those broad goals, groups of agents, volunteers, and youth will be asked to develop the action steps necessary to move along that road map. Stay tuned for further information. The next meeting of this committee will happen in early July. --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu

4-H YOUTH LIVESTOCK PROJECT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
A 4-H Youth Livestock Projects Advisory Committee is being created for the purpose of providing input on project direction, ethics, policies, and guidelines for beef, sheep, and swine projects, and to help in the development of meat goats or any other livestock projects needing such advisory assistance. This advisory group would provide input across areas like project training, leadership development, shows, contests, and any other associated activities relating to 4-H youth signed up for livestock projects.

The initial committee includes: Gary Gold, Becky Stubbs, Andrea Burns, Leanne Coxbill, Dale Lanham, Mike Holder, David Hallauer, Shawna Mitchell, Barbara Addison, Jim Mengarelli, Julie Voge, Cliff Spaeth, Joel DeRouchey, Dave Nichols, Jim Adams, Paul Hartman (ex-officio), and Daryl Buchholz (ex-officio).

Comments and suggestions of issues this group should tackle are welcome to any member of the committee. --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu

CROP & GRAZING LANDS TELECONFERENCES
If you have information and/or interest in knowing what the crop, forage, and grazing lands conditions are across the state through the growing season, plan to call in and join our regularly scheduled teleconferences.

These teleconferences will occur at 8:30 a.m. on the following Mondays: June 16, June 30, July 14, July 28, August 11, August 25, September 8 and September 22. You can join the conference simply by calling 785-296-4843 at 8:30 a.m. on those dates. Please put the teleconferences on your schedule, and be prepared to share your local situations and issues, and listen to others share the issues and situations they have encountered over the past few weeks, and expectations for the coming weeks. --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu

4-H RECOGNITION SYSTEM REVIEW NO EARLIER THAN 2004
This is to advise our system that while excellent input from agents was received at 4-H Update Meetings during November of 2002, a comprehensive review of the 4-H recognition system, including but not limited to, a review of the Kansas Award Application (KAA) form and process, etc., will not occur at the earliest prior to calendar year 2004. In order to conduct a review that will meet the needs of young people for another 5, 10 or 15 years, the time is required to do it correctly with inclusive input from agents, volunteers and youth participants and sufficient time for reaction and responses.

Your patience is appreciated and please do forward to me any thoughts or suggestions you may have in the meanwhile regarding how we recognize participants in Kansas 4-H. Gary Gerhard ggerhard@oznet.ksu.edu
