ENVIRONMENTAL CHECKLIST FOR CO-OPS
The Pollution Prevention Institute (PPI) at K-State recently released a Water Quality Protection Assessment designed to help ag service centers and co-ops assess environmental risks their facilities pose to nearby surface and ground water. The document, in a checklist format, is designed to identify areas that need work to minimize risk to on-site or community drinking water sources.

PPI delivers the Kansas Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP) which provides free, confidential assistance to help co-ops identify environmental compliance problems, set goals and develop programs to prevent pollution in all aspects of operations; and train employees in hazardous waste handling, spill response and reporting plans, and storm water protection measures. The water quality protection tool can be found on the "What's New" page of the SBEAP Web site: http://www.sbeap.org .

For more information on this program, call our confidential, environmental hotline at 800-578-8898. --Sherry J. Davis sbd@ksu.edu

VOLUNTEERS REQUESTED TO HELP IN OUR BOOTHS AT THE KANSAS STATE FAIR
The College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension will once again have adjoining booths in the Pride of Kansas Building at the Kansas State Fair. The fair runs from Friday, September 5, through Sunday,  September 14, 2003.

We will need people to work in the two booths on both Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday-Thursday from 9 a.m. till 9 p.m., and the last Sunday from 9 a.m. till 7p.m.

We would certainly appreciate it if faculty and staff from campus, county offices, Agronomy Fields, and Research-Extension Centers would go to the fair and work for several hours on any one day. Also, we would appreciate agents and/or faculty, who are going to the fair anyway, signing up to work a couple hours in the booth before or after your activities. It is fun sharing information about K-State and K-State Research and Extension.

If you would like to work in one or both of the booths, please contact Cassie Mitchell at 785-532-5729 or cmitchel@oznet.ksu.edu  by August 8. Please tell her which booth you want to work in and which day and times are best for you. We will be in touch soon afterward with the final schedule plus send tickets, work out transportation, etc.

Thank you for your assistance. See you at the Kansas State Fair. --Steven Graham sgraham@oznet.ksu.edu and Jackie McClaskey jax@ksu.edu
