SEQUEL TO THE LOCAL
DELIVERY TASK FORCE
The first K-State Research and Extension Local Delivery Task Force was
charged with recommending how we could deliver cutting-edge programs at
the local level while providing job satisfaction and career enhancement
for county and area professional staff given limited resources. Sounds
relevant, doesn’t it? The Status Report produced by this group is dated
July 6, 2000, and was released by Marc Johnson and Dick Wootton. It should
be obvious to everyone that the challenges we have been forced to face
since mid-2000 are significant, diverse, and will have long-term impact on
how we approach our mission; particularly if we want our organization to
remain vibrant, relevant, and the preferred point of first contact for
unbiased, science-based information within Kansas.
As you know, many states are rethinking how
they approach extension structure and staffing. K-State is not immune from
internal and external pressures. For example, consider your own unit’s
staffing situation and the operating funds you have available now versus
three years ago.
We want to hear your thoughts on how we
should approach future planning for delivering our educational message in
the face of changing budgets, staffing patterns, expectations, technology,
etc. The initial Local Delivery Task Force was largely composed of
internal members (with the State Extension Advisory Council chairperson
included). This time, for broader strategic planning, we intend to include
internal and external stakeholders. More information will be released as
these plans evolve. Your suggestions are welcome. –Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu

STATE FAIR ENTRIES
Many county fairs are now over and thus it is time to get State Fair
entries submitted via the KSFAIR web site on the Intranet. Please do not
wait until just before the deadline as that may overload the system!
Deadline is August 15, unless your county fair ends after August 10.
Then you have 5 days after your fair ends. --Jim Adams jadams@oznet.ksu.edu

STATE FAIR 4-H VOLUNTEERS
As of July 31, we have responses from only about 15 - 20 counties
listing volunteers to help at the state fair. This is the list we use to
issue gate admission tickets, so if we do not receive the reports, your
volunteers may be left out!!!
Please remember to list those volunteers
who may be serving on State 4-H Action Teams that have responsibilities
at the state fair too. --Jim Adams jadams@oznet.ksu.edu

VOLUNTEERS
REQUESTED TO HELP IN OUR BOOTHS AT THE KANSAS STATE FAIR
The College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension will
once again have adjoining booths in the Pride of Kansas Building at the
Kansas State Fair. The fair runs from Friday, September 5, through
Sunday, September 14, 2003.
We will need people to work in the two
booths on both Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.,
Sunday-Thursday from 9 a.m. till 9 p.m., and the last Sunday from 9 a.m.
till 7p.m.
We would certainly appreciate it if
faculty and staff from campus, county offices, Agronomy Fields, and
Research-Extension Centers would go to the fair and work for several
hours on any one day. Also, we would appreciate agents and/or faculty,
who are going to the fair anyway, signing up to work a couple hours in
the booth before or after your activities. It is fun sharing information
about K-State and K-State Research and Extension.
If you would like to work in one or both
of the booths, please contact Cassie Mitchell at 785-532-5729 or cmitchel@oznet.ksu.edu
by August 8. Tell her which booth you want to work in and which day and
times are best for you. We will be in touch soon afterward with the
final schedule plus send tickets, work out transportation, etc.
Thank you for your assistance. See you at
the Kansas State Fair. --Steven Graham sgraham@oznet.ksu.edu
