ELECTRICAL SAFETY AT FAIRS, FIELD DAYS, AND OTHER PUBLIC EVENTS
Recommendations for electrical safety at fairs, field days, and other public events have been posted on the Research and Extension safety web site. An electrical safety inspection checklist is also included. You can either go directly to the recommendations at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/agsafe/electrical_safety_public_events.htm , or you can go to our safety homepage and follow the links under the heading, "Resources," at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/agsafe/ .

Electrical safety is an important consideration at all public events, especially when these events occur outdoors, in damp conditions, or in facilities with unfinished floors. Please review and implement the recommendations prior to each public event. I am available to discuss your safety concerns and I will come to your location if you need any help implementing the recommendations. I appreciate the hard work you already put in to make sure our events run smoothly. This is one more important step to help guarantee that our participants and visitors are all safe and well at the end of the day. --Mitch Ricketts mrickett@oznet.ksu.edu

THANK YOU
Thank you to all the friends and co-workers who sent cards to us and for those who made contributions to Dad's Memorial Fund. My family and I appreciate so much the support we received from everyone. The outpouring of sympathy and support we received was more than we could ever have imagined. Thank you all.
--Carol Collins ccollins@oznet.ksu.edu  on behalf of the Clyde Wilson Family

4-H INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
Kansas 4-H Youth Development will again participate in two important international exchange efforts during the 4-H year beginning October 1, 2003.

1. International Four-H Youth Exchange (IFYE)
With the fantastic leadership of Dr. Mary Kay Munson of Junction City, both the traditional 4-H IFYE Representative and Ambassador programs will be offered. NEW FOR 2004, is our partnership with Wisconsin and an opportunity for 4-H'ers, 16-18 year olds, to spend a month in Australia living with farm families. The month-long "Upper Midwest Ambassadors to Australia" and 4-H IFYE Ambassador group exchanges that are chaperoned will be open to 4-H'ers, 16 and older. 4-H alumni, ages 19-25, may participate in these IFYE Ambassador summer, six-week group programs as well as unchaperoned, individual Ambassador exchanges in a variety of countries next summer. The IFYE Representative opportunities provide 3 or 6 month stays for 19 to 30 year olds.

A MAILING IS HEADING YOUR WAY IN THE WEEKLY MAIL FROM DISTRIBUTION CENTER WITH ADDITIONAL DETAILS ON THESE OPPORTUNITIES!

2. 4-H Japan Exchange (LABO)
Yes, the 4-H Japan Exchange will be back in the summer of 2004! Details about the 2004 4-H Japan Exchange program have not yet arrived, but the Department of 4-H Youth Development, K-State Research and Extension, is committed to the summer inbound and outbound exchanges in 2004. Decisions regarding inbound year long exchanges for the 2004-2005 school year have not been finalized. Expect additional information this Fall regarding 4-H Japan Exchange as soon as we receive it.

PUBLICATIONS/PRODUCTION SERVICES UPDATE
Standing Orders for AES Publications Canceled
The 2003 Crop Performance Test and other Agricultural Experiment Station publications are due for distribution soon. Note that standing orders for these publications have been canceled, and orders must be placed through monthly order forms. This process was changed in response to client comments about receiving too many copies of items on standing order. Please check your office or department's needs for AES publications. Five publications were listed on the October order form, with orders due August 1. Printing will begin soon, so please revise your order as soon as possible if more copies are needed.

Beef Nose Print Nomination Cards May be Revised
Orders for the 4-H publication MG-33, Beef Nose Print Nomination -- Kansas 4-H/FFA State Shows have been canceled due to a probable revision of the card. Look for the revised card to be offered on the January 2004 order form.
