K-STATE RESEARCH AND EXTENSION ANNUAL CONFERENCE EVALUATIONS
Most everyone who attended the 2004 K-State Research and Extension Annual Conference should have received a request to fill out an on-line evaluation. This is a reminder that you have until the end of this week, Friday, January 30, to fill out the survey. It does not take much time at all to provide your input, and we value your input. Many of you have already responded, and we thank you for taking the time.

If anyone did not receive a survey and would like to submit suggestions to the committee, please send your suggestions to me at ckastner@oznet.ksu.edu . Thanks for your cooperation. --Curtis Kastner

K-STATE OFFERS INTERNET-BASED GERONTOLOGY MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAM & CERTIFICATE
The Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (GP-IDEA) has developed an Internet-based gerontology program. The courses are offered through Kansas State University's Division of Continuing Education. Students in the program can choose between two options: a 36-credit master's degree in Family Studies and Human Services or a 21-credit graduate certificate, concentrating in Gerontology. Gerontology is the multidisciplinary study of the aging processes and individuals as they grow from middle age through later life.

Course topics covered in the master's degree program include the physical, mental, and social changes for aging adults; the effects of economics and public policy on aging and health and nutrition for older adults.

The 21-credit certificate program consists of five required courses and six elective courses. This program prepares professionals who are either working directly with older people or who are involved in education or research related to aging issues. Professionals offering direct services often are involved in health promotion programs, directing intergenerational activities, managing senior centers or retirement communities, counseling older people and their families, and helping people plan for retirement.

For information, visit www.ksu.edu/gerontology/distance.htm  or www.gpidea.org  for the schedule of core course offerings and electives. Applications and reference forms can be found online and should be returned to Debra Wood, program coordinator. --Melinda Sinn sinnpio@ksu.edu
