LEVEL PLAYING FIELD EQUIPMENT
DISPOSAL
Questions have been asked regarding the disposal of Level Playing Field
equipment - computers, notebooks and printers. These computers have been
housed in county and district offices, but maintained on the area office's
inventory as they are state property.
The disposal of state property is outlined in the
K-State Policy and Procedures Manual in Chapter 6510. The address is http://www.ksu.edu/policies/ppm/6510.html
.
A recent letter from Keith Ratzloff, K-State Assistant
Vice President/Controller, contained a reminder that State of Kansas
property cannot be given to an individual nor can an individual remove
state property for personal use; this is a violation of state policy.
The area office may determine if the equipment can be
used in another county or campus location. The transfer of property should
be tracked as per the PPM.
If there is not a county/district/area or campus office
requesting a computer, the area office will follow the procedures outlined
in the PPM. After receiving authorization from the Controller's Office,
the area office can sell to the highest sealed or telephone bid received,
sell at a public auction to the highest bid received, or donate to a
not-for-profit organization exempt from federal income tax.
When disposing of a computer, it is the responsibility
of the office where the computer was housed to ensure that all sensitive
information is removed from the computer.
For additional information, contact IET at 785-532-6270
or the Extension Operations Office at 785-532-5790. --Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu
