IN THIS ISSUE... ...SEAC
and KCEE Meetings SEAC AND KCEE
MEETINGS Our SEAC and Extension Administrative groups reviewed key features of the 2004 KSRE budget at the state and county level, heard about projections for our 2005 budget, retirements, the status of searches to fill open positions, strategic planning, the five-year plan and action plan development, county staffing guidelines, and changes and challenges affecting 4-H and FCS. We also learned more about the Extension program at Haskell Indian Nations University from Arnold Jefferson, the Extension Director at Haskell. KCEE reviewed current and future lobbying efforts on our behalf and agreed to support the re-establishment of CARET (Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching) within the state via a Kansas-specific effort that will be called KCARET. The fall meetings for both groups will take place August 26-27, 2004, in Garden City. --Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu

"LIFE
PASSAGES: WOMEN, DRESS AND CULTURE" EXHIBITION The exhibition, from March 1 to June 6, features the work of Anita Luvera Mayer, an internationally known artist and weaver. Mayer donated a collection of her work, "Mantles for Women: Rites of Passage," to K-State's Historic Costume and Textile Museum. The themes of the exhibition correspond with the themes of Mayer's mantles: "Metamorphosis: Celebration of Life and Death," "Menses," "Marriage," "Motherhood," "Menopause" and "Matriarchal Crone." In addition to the mantles, the exhibition will include historic costumes, related apparel items, quilts and ethnic materials from the Historic Costume and Textiles Museum. In conjunction with the exhibition, the department of Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design will sponsor a series of lectures by noted scholars from across the United States, as well as publish an exhibition catalog featuring an essay by Mayer, photos of objects from the exhibition and articles by the lecturers. All public events are free unless otherwise noted.
