SPRING ACTION CONFERENCES
Thanks go out to everyone involved in making our Spring Action Conferences a success. Specialists participating in these events had a chance to hear feedback from agents about local needs and should be considering those comments when finalizing their state- and area-level action plans. In some locations, agents made progress while still at the meeting site in developing draft county action plans. Marie Blythe has distributed next-step guidelines to Area Extension Directors. --Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu

JUSTIN WIEBERS JOINS 4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT STAFF
Please join the 4-H Youth Development staff in welcoming Justin Wiebers to K-State Research and Extension and Kansas State University by attending a reception in his honor in Umberger 125 on Friday, April 23, 3:00-4:30 p.m. Justin's wife, Kristey, and daughter, Annika, will also be here. Justin has been hired as the state events and activities coordinator for the Kansas 4-H Youth Development Program.

A native of Colorado, Justin has  most recently been 4-H Agent in Sullivan County, Tennessee. You can welcome Justin with an e-mail at jwiebers@oznet.ksu.edu . He is housed within the 4-H Youth Development Department. --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu

REMINDER: FINALIZING LTIO STATEMENTS
The following paragraph is from the February 10 Tuesday Letter and appeared under the title, "Update on New 5-year Plan."

"Long Term Intended Outcome (LTIO) statements, the basis of the new 5-year plan, were shared during the K-State Research and Extension Annual Conference and Extension Partnership meetings. Writing team leaders have received comments and results compiled from the priority surveys distributed at Annual Conference. LTIO writing teams should reconvene to finalize the LTIO statements by March 30, prior to preparation and publication of the public document - the new 5-year plan."

To date, we have received verification that four LTIOs (1, 9, 11, and 12) have been completed and are in final form. We need to hear from the rest of the teams. If you are contacted by your writing team leader, please help him/her complete this task so we can move forward with editing the overall plan. Marie Blythe, mblythe@oznet.ksu.edu , is your primary contact and she needs to know whether the final form of your document is posted on our web site. --Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu

HEALTH INSURANCE FOR EXTENSION COUNCIL/DISTRICT GOVERNING BODY EMPLOYEES
Office professionals and program assistants employed by County Extension Councils and District Governing Bodies now have access to a group health insurance plan through the State Health Care Commission. Thus far, six entities are taking advantage of this opportunity, including Walnut Creek District and Riley, Republic, Shawnee, Scott and Trego Counties. The upcoming budget meetings present an opportunity to discuss the  possibility of budgeting this benefit for calendar year 2005. Information regarding this benefit was presented at the Partnership Meetings in January. Contact area directors or Stacey Warner at 785-532-5790 for additional information. --Stacey M. Warner swarner@oznet.ksu.edu

WORKERS STILL NEEDED FOR KSRE BOOTH AT THE 3i SHOW IN GREAT BEND
The 3i Show takes place this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 22, 23, and 24, at the Great Bend Airport. The show is open each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our booth (I-115) is in the Expo-2 Building, along the north wall in the same spot where we have been before.

Steven Graham will bring the table top display and handout materials from campus and be present during all three days of the show. If you would like to attend the 3i Show and also assist in the booth for an hour or more, that would be great. There is no entrance or parking fee.

The 3i Show is a huge farm machinery show which also has some daily programming aimed at spouses. These programs are coordinated by Donna Krug with our Barton County Research and Extension Office. Thus, we see lots of males, females, entire families, and students who attend the show. Our booth will have information from all four Core Mission Themes, plus we may be joined by some of the Watershed Specialists.

Please e-mail Elsa Toburen, etoburen@oznet.ksu.edu , and let her know which day(s) and what time(s) you would like to work in the booth. Thanks for your assistance. --Steven Graham sgraham@oznet.ksu.edu

LIVESTOCK JUDGING AND ORAL REASONS CAMPS SCHEDULED
The Livestock Judging and Oral Reasons Camps will be held June 1-3, June 8-10, June 15-17, June 19-21 and June 29-July 1, in Weber Arena. These camps have been designed for 4-H and FFA members (ages 14-18) who are seriously interested in enhancing their livestock judging and oral communication skills. Species covered will include beef cattle, swine and sheep. The camp will focus primarily on the proper format, terminology and presentation of oral reasons. Camp participants will also be exposed to livestock evaluation skills and the use of performance records in breeding livestock. The registration fee is $170 and will cover housing, meals, a T-shirt, and a livestock judging manual.

We are also offering a beginning camp on June 12. This one-day camp is designed for youth of all ages who have had little or no training in livestock judging. Participants will learn the fundamentals of swine, cattle and sheep evaluation and will be exposed to proper note taking and terminology used to describe livestock. The camp will focus on developing a reasons format and presenting oral reasons. The objective of this camp is to equip each participant with the necessary information to become more confident with livestock judging and oral reasons. The registration fee for this camp is $45 and will cover lunch, a t-shirt, and a livestock judging manual.

Make checks payable to KSU Judging Camp and send them to Dr. Scott Schaake, Kansas State University, Department Animal Sciences & Industry, 134B Weber Hall, Manhattan KS 66506-0201 by May 7.
