UPDATE ON e-EXTENSION PROGRESS AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL
Extension Directors recently voted overwhelmingly to support e-Extension with financial and operational support. To learn more about this initiative, browse through the following website: http://e-Extensionproject.info/ .  A brief paragraph of introduction taken from that source appears below.

The Cooperative Extension Services of the U.S. states and territories, along with other components of Land-Grant Universities and the Cooperative States Research, Education and Extension Service of USDA, are cooperating to build a national e-Extension system. This collaborative effort will allow the Extension system to more efficiently serve current and new customers in ways that provide accurate and just in time information for decision making. The information technology and the intellectual capacity for this system are in place to complement the dedicated Extension educators located in the 3000 plus counties of the US. …..(e-Extension should embody a) …….common vision for the future and to help design an on-line Extension information system for the next generation of users.

Three professional positions intended to provide national leadership to the e-Extension project are being advertised. Questions about the positions may be directed to Richard Wootton at NASULGC, 202-478-6029, or rwootton@nasulgc.org . --Randy Higgins rhiggins@oznet.ksu.edu

GORDON HIBBARD NAMED 4-H FOUNDATION PRESIDENT
The Kansas 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees has named Gordon Hibbard, Manhattan, to succeed Bill Riley as President of the nation's largest state 4-H foundation.  Hibbard joined the Kansas 4-H Foundation staff in 1999 and served five years as the Operations Manager at Rock Springs.  Hibbard is a former Greenwood County 4-H member and Kansas 4-H Key Award recipient.  He serves as a local volunteer 4-H Leader.

The Kansas 4-H Foundation is widely recognized as the largest state 4-H Foundation in the nation with more than 150 employees managing the operations of Rock Springs 4-H Center, the Kansas 4-H Journal, fund development, scholarships, investment management, Clovia Scholarship house and award programs for 4-H members.  --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu

RURAL HEALTH WORKS COMING TO KANSAS
In response to demand from numerous rural hospital administrators, the Kansas Rural Health Options Project, a coalition of health services agencies, has teamed with the Office of Local Government, to introduce the Kansas Rural Health Works program. Drawing on the national Rural Health Works initiative active in at least 14 states, the Kansas Rural Health Works program is intended to motivate and support locally-driven health care planning for sustainable rural health care systems.

The Office of Local Government recently completed the first phase of the program with the completion of an economic impact analysis of the local health care sector for every county in the state. The reports have been delivered to hospital administrators throughout the state. Planning has begun for additional initiatives to be introduced in the next year.

Funding for Kansas Rural Health Works is provided by the Office of Rural Health Policy, Health Resources and Services Administration. To learn more about the initiative and, soon, to obtain copies of the economic impact reports, visit the Kansas Rural Health Works Website at www.oznet.ksu.edu/krhw .  --John Leatherman jleather@agecon.ksu.edu
