ELECTRICAL SAFETY AT FAIRS, FIELD DAYS, AND OTHER PUBLIC EVENTS
As you schedule public events this summer, please remember that you need to take specific precautions any time electricity is used outdoors, in damp conditions, in the presence of children, around livestock, or in facilities with unfinished floors. You can find recommendations and a checklist on the Research and Extension Health, Safety, and Environmental Quality web site at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/agsafe/Manual/ElectricalSafety.htm .

Please keep your participants and yourself safe from electrocution by reviewing and implementing the recommendations prior to each event. I am available to discuss your safety concerns and I can come to your location if you need on-site assistance. I appreciate the efforts you have all made to incorporate safety into your events. This is one more important step to help guarantee that our participants, employees, and visitors all go home safe and well at the end of the day. --Mitch Ricketts mrickett@oznet.ksu.edu

UPDATE YOUR WEB SITES
With the many changes in personnel and addresses, many of the Web sites for K-State Research and Extension programs, centers, and offices can become outdated. Keeping your Web site current is as important as keeping your phone listing updated. If your Web site -- especially contact information -- is outdated, people may view other information from you as outdated and unreliable, too. So, if you have recently changed offices or your department personnel have changed, review your Web site and make any necessary updates. For assistance with your Web site, please contact Neal Wollenberg at nealw@oznet.ksu.edu . --Steven Graham  sgraham@oznet.ksu.edu

2004 WATER CELEBRATION PLANNING WORKSHOP
Grant funding and training resources are now available for water education events.

A water celebration is an educational, interactive, and fun event that will increase awareness and appreciation of local water resources and issues. The 2004 Water Celebration planning workshop is designed to provide tools for planning water celebration event logistics and curriculum, along with a behind-the-scenes water celebration experience. Participants will have inside access to the Topeka Water Festival, along with workshop sessions covering all aspects of conducting educational and sustainable water celebrations that address the water education issues that are most important in your local area.

We are really excited about all of the sessions and resources we're able to offer at the workshop this year, and we try to make it very easy and economical for folks to participate. The workshop fee is only $15 for two days, including all meals and materials. Travel stipends to cover mileage and lodging are also available. Workshop participants are eligible to apply for up to $2500 in grant funds per county served for their water celebration event, and support is available throughout the planning process.

The 2004 Water Celebration Planning Workshop registration materials and agenda can be accessed online at http://www.kdhe.state.ks.us/nps/#resources . Please scroll down to "Clean Water Programs" and click on "KACEE Water Celebrations Workshop." (These materials are also available in a mailed hard copy upon request). The workshop will be held in conjunction with the Topeka Water Festival on September 23-24, 2004.

I hope you'll consider sending a representative to the workshop in September. For more information, please call me at 785-597-5452 or reach me through e-mail at melisarth7@aol.com. Melissa A.
