WORD FROM ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH
POWER OF PROFESSIONALISM
Last week, Vaughn Studer and Kim Menard, with the KSU Foundation, put on a workshop to talk about funds development beyond public monies. As part of that workshop, they brought in Marilyn Harris, Harris Training Group, to talk with us about making a positive image and showing professionalism when meeting with potential donors. What she taught us should be our daily practice (in my humble opinion). She described the power of professionalism in the simplest terms that we should all adhere to. They include:

* Be on time.
* Be discrete.
* Be courteous, pleasant, and positive.
* Be concerned for others.
* Dress appropriately.
* Use professional written and spoken language.

With a great deal of background and examples, it was easy to see how that simple list represents POWER in PROFESSIONALISM..... something we should practice on a daily basis with everyone we meet and work with! --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu 

DO YOU NEED A NAME BADGE?
For the past two years, we have worked with a local vendor for our K-State Research and Extension name badges.  Due to budget considerations, we have been unable to provide new name badges for all employees.

The policy is that every new employee receives his/her first name badge free of charge.  Any replacement badges will need to be paid by the department, county, area, research center, etc.  The cost of the new badges is:

$5.00 for magnets
$4.50 for clips
$4.00 for pins

If you have never received a name badge, of if you wish to purchase a new one, e-mail Sue Robinson, srobinso@oznet.ksu.edu .  Be sure to specify the kind of backing you want - magnet, clip, or pin - and specify how you want your name on the name badge.  There is not room for titles on the badges.  We list department, county, area, or research center.

If you are planning to attend the Micro K-State Research and Extension Annual Conference, October 19-20, in Great Bend, please order your name badge right away so we have time to have them made and sent to you prior to the conference.

NEW KANSAS 4-H PARTICIPATION FORM
The new Kansas 4-H Participation Form has been developed in an effort to simplify and reduce paperwork while improving our ability to serve 4-H members and volunteers. This single form will be used for both youth and adult participants in all 4-H activities and is intended to replace all the various health and release forms (including Rock Springs forms).

Photocopies of completed forms may be used for all local, state, and even some national events, and possibly best of all, this form does NOT need to be notarized!

Please go to the State 4-H website, http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/4h , where  you'll find an introduction with directions (in Word and Acrobat) and the 4-H Participation Form (in Acrobat). These documents have been updated as of 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2004. The Adobe Acrobat version is a fill-able form with  pop-up instructions when you hold your mouse pointer over various fields. With the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, users will be able to read, complete and print the form but will not be able to save it unless they have the full (purchased) version of Acrobat.

Local Extension units may start using the form immediately, and should plan to make it part of the 4-H enrollment process. It may be printed off the web and/or it may be ordered on demand from Distribution. The publication number is still MG35; previously known as the "Health Form"; now known as the "4-H Participation Form."

DR. RAY E. LAMOND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
On July 24, 2004, Dr. Ray Lamond, Agronomy State Extension Leader and Soil Fertility Extension Specialist, died unexpectedly. A memorial scholarship fund has been established for Dr. Lamond. Contributions may be made to: Dr. Ray E. IET MULTIMEDIA LAB DIGITAL SERVICES
We are excited to offer you many digital imaging services at the IET Multimedia Lab.

This self-service lab in Umberger Hall offers help, assistance and training on many types of digital imaging equipment. We can help you in using your digital camera, optimizing images for the Internet or an electronic presentation, and in digitizing video tapes for use on your Website or in a PowerPoint presentation. We also provide scanning of slides, film, and flat copy.

Please note that one service we will discontinue on October 1 will be creating 35mm slides from PowerPoint presentations.
