WORD FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH
We've come through a time where a great number of action plans have been developed and put on paper. Most are excellent and others have potential. Now we are at the point in time for implementation, action, follow-through, evaluation, adjustments, and eventual completion. I trust the planning was not in vain. With implementation, be reminded of a passage out of the 1922 Extension Bulletin No. 33
The Extension Worker's Code by T. J. Talbert, "...try to visualize the results which should be obtained. Leave nothing undone which might contribute toward success."

A challenge for any Extension worker is to focus, focus, focus. One must focus on those actions which will have the greatest meaning and purpose in accomplishing the plan. The importance of accomplishing the plan is best stated in another quote from The Extension Worker's Code, "Our success is not measured by the half dozen or more pieces of work which we have attempted to carry forward to completion, but by the one or two jobs which we have been able to do better than anyone else."

Whether its an educational program, research project, or some combination, the people of Kansas are counting on us to carry our action plans to completion. We owe it to ourselves to do it better than anyone else. As you go about implementation, keep in mind one more quote from The Extension Worker's Code, "No really worthwhile undertaking has ever been carried to a successful completion without careful and definite plans being made in advance."  --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@oznet.ksu.edu

This year’s Kansas Rural Policy Symposium, entitled “To Entrepreneur or Not To Entrepreneur?: That is the Kansas Question” will examine entrepreneurship as an economic development strategy and will analyze the impact of the recently passed Economic Growth Act to identify gaps in our understanding of entrepreneurial culture resulting in policy shortfalls.

STATE AGRITOURISM CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN GREAT BEND NOVEMBER 3-4
