Vol. 14, No. 39
August 12, 2008 IN THIS ISSUE... ...Word from the
Associate Director - Extension and Applied Research WORD FROM THE
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH Some of you have already watched this video because of your curiosity in watching those videos from last week, and the week before. This really brings together the thought patterns of a new age of learning. I don't know if I believe young people of today are any different than young people of the generations before. Technology has simply come into their lives, and given them new ways to experience life and learning. Maybe the biggest change is in the opportunity for people today to be more involved in the creation of learning? Would that have implications for the way in which we do non-formal learning experiences? Does the advent of the web and tagging and no scarcity of information for the clientele diminish the value, purpose, and need for Extension? Should Extension teaching methods be changing? What if we leave some of our clientele behind in this technological era? Or, what if some of our clientele leave us behind? Where should Extension be in this mediated culture? I'd really like to hear your thoughts. Have a great week! --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@ksu.edu

MARKETING
MINUTE: "WE KNOW" CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF AT STATE FAIR The campaign will highlight K-State Research and Extension programs in consumer-friendly language, such as "We Know Food Safety;" "We Know Crops and Livestock;" "We Know Families;" and many other variations of the theme. So far, we've developed 18 postcards with the "We Know" theme that will be the primary handouts at the organization's State Fair booth. These postcards can be seen online at www.oznet.ksu.edu/library/We_Know.htm . The "We Know" theme will be highlighted with three colorful banner displays, each standing approximately 6 feet tall. Also at this year's State Fair booth, volunteers will hand out calendars that stick to a computer monitor or keyboard; and booth visitors will have a chance to win raffle prizes by responding to an online marketing survey. Learn more about K-State Research and Extension's marketing strategies by visiting our marketing blog, http://ksremarketingminute.blogspot.com/ . --Pat Melgares melgares@ksu.edu
