WORD FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH
The following thought might be too simple and too broad a generalization, and I will certainly take your feedback on how you view this thought.

Why is it that differences among people, their culture, their values, their outward appearances are often viewed as a threat or something to put down?

In this global world we are bound to be confronted with opportunities to come to know and understand people who are vastly different from us. Why not grab those opportunities to strive to understand and respect such differences?

Have a great week! -Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@ksu.edu

SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
Two individuals from K-State Research and Extension will have the opportunity to participate in a "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" workshop.

It will be hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Service, November 4 to November 6, at Camp Comeca near Cozad NE. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and ends at 2 p.m. on Thursday. UNL Extension will cover the cost of the workshop including lodging and meals. Participants would be responsible for mileage and other expenses to and from Camp Comeca.

This intensive three day workshop will provide participants with a plan to fully integrate the 7 Habits into their lives. It is designed for anyone looking to become a more effective person - regardless of occupation, position or stage in life.

Past Kansas participants in the Nebraska session are Margaret Phillips and Stacey Warner. Contact them to learn more.

If you are interested, please notify Susie Farrington, sfarring@ksu.edu , by 12 noon on Friday, September 12. Only your name and an indication of your interest is needed. --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@ksu.edu

DO YOU NEED A NEW NAME BADGE?
All participants attending the upcoming Annual Conference, October 20-23, 2008, will be requested to wear their K-State Research and Extension name badges.

If you have never received a name badge, if you still have one of the old variety, or if you wish to purchase a new badge, e-mail Sue Robinson, srobinso@.ksu.edu .

Be sure to specify the kind of backing you want - magnet, clip or pin - and specify how you want your name on the badge. There is not room for titles, but department, area, county, district, or research center will be shown if you desire. The alternative I like is just your name below the K-State Research and Extension brand.

Each new employee, at the instructor level or above, receives his/her first name badge free of charge. Counties, districts, areas and departments are encouraged to order name badges for other employees and will be invoiced in the amount of $6 for each name badge.

If a new name badge is needed, please order immediately so we can get it sent to you prior to the conference. --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@ksu.edu
