WORD FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH
A few months back I was at a meeting where the discussion was around rural communities and creating positive community development. That discussion moved towards the importance of planning and evaluating the work that had been done. I thought it might have relevance with Annual Meetings and discussions with your Board, administrative supervisor, or Program Development Committee.

Terry Woodbury, Kansas Communities, LLC , offered a series of four questions he has found useful in keeping a community group engaged in positive work.

1. What did you plan to do a year ago?
2. What did you actually do in the past year?
3. How did the accomplishments change you?
4. What do you plan to do next year?

You might frame those questions in the context of the Extension model. For example, question number 3 might be more focused on how the accomplishments changed the target audience.

With County Extension annual meetings just about underway, I'd encourage you to use these questions with your council and/or your individual program development committees. Extension Councils could reflect on these questions and provide guidance on the priority situations and resulting local Extension programs each year.

Have a great week! --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@ksu.edu

I have visited with an Account Rep. from True Colors program and they told me that if we had at least 30 Agents interested in this Certification Training they could hold the training in Kansas, probably at Manhattan. I was looking at sometime in 2009. If you have any questions please contact Melinda Daily, Sunflower Extension District, 785-852-4285, or e-mail me at: mdaily@ksu.edu .  I would need to know what date would work best for you. I would also like to remind you that you would probably be allowed to use your professional development money for the training. The cost of the training is $1095.00. Note: Those Agents that need to recertify could also take the training. --Melinda Daily
