WORD FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH
The Kansas State Fair for 2010 is now in the history books, and out there on video. A unique highlight at this year's fair was the unveiling of the Kiowa County Media Center mobile trailer. This media center came about through a great cooperative project with Kiowa County, Greensburg, and Kansas State University. A few key players in the project were Janet West, Board President for the Media Center; Dr. Bert Biles and Brandon Utech, Kansas State University; and Grant Nuehold, Programming Producer/Director. It was set up just to north of the Pride of Kansas Building where Janet West interviewed dozens of individuals present at the fair, including our Interim Director for K-State Research and Extension, Dr. Gary Pierzynski.
Gary wasn't the only individual with K-State connections. A few others included: Willie Wildcat, Pat Bosco, Bob Bennett, Paula Peters, Beth Hecht, Randall Kowalik, Aaron Gasper, and Ron Graber to name a few. Additionally, several 4-H youth leaders were featured, including: Calvin Dix, Reagan Kays, Chelsey Smith, Abby Gunther, and Lori Carselowey (a 4-H judge at the Fair). Two College of Ag Ambassadors were also featured: Aaron Kadavy and Jake New. They keep adding more video clips, and you may want to check them all out on the Kiowa County You Tube Channel at the Ks State Fair!
On behalf of K-State Research and Extension, the College of Agriculture, and the Kansas State Fair Board, I want to thank everyone, faculty, staff, students, and volunteers, who played some role in the success of the K-State Research and Extension educational booths, exhibits, events, contests, and activities taking place on the State Fair grounds. Our presence with these educational events for youth and adults is recognized and appreciated.
Have a great week! --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@ksu.edu
