WORD FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH
Heat and drought all across Kansas. I thought maybe it was going to break sometime soon, but then took a look at the 7 day forecast and it remains oppressively hot and only very scattered rains. Maybe it will be cooler by the weekend. My thanks to faculty who are responding with pertinent, timely, relevant information of interest to our clientele in dealing with the heat and drought. A website page was added late last week to AgManager.info for crop related drought information. News media information is scattered with numerous releases on ways to mitigate or avoid issues that result from heat stress and drought stress. As the heat and drought continue, the KSRE home page will devote the lower center of the page to recent heat and drought resource information.
I know with fairs happening all around the state that it is your priority to provide for the health and safety of the youth, families, and all those living and breathing projects. Good decisions on the front end may well avoid a tragedy or deep disappointment.
The Extension Disaster Education Network is also a great resource for some heat and drought related information.
Are there other resources to which you would point to and use in response to the continued heat and drought conditions? If you have something that doesn’t appear in these resources, please pass it along to Pat Melgares, melgares@ksu.edu.
Thanks, stay cool, and have a great week! --Daryl Buchholz dbuchhol@ksu.edu
