PASSWORD CHANGE DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 14
K-State's eID password change deadline is September 14. If you have not changed your password since August 1, you must do so before the deadline or you will lose access to your K-State resources.
To change your eID password, visit https://eid.ksu.edu and log in with your eID and password. Your password must be at least 7 characters long, and needs to include three of these four categories: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters. It must also not be based on an identifiable word, acronym or name.
We highly recommend making your passwords longer than the 7 character minimum. One way to do this is to use a pass phrase, or several words put together or separated with spaces or other symbols. Those words must not be identifiable as defined above, but the phrase itself can be remembered much better than a short, complicated password.
While on the eID site, you will also be prompted to update your password reset options. We encourage you to keep that information current, especially the alternate email address, since that can be used to reset your password if needed.
If you have any questions or problems getting your password changed, feel free to contact KSRE Support at 785-532-6270. You can also contact the K-State Helpdesk for assistance with password issues at 785-532-7722 or 800-865-6143. -- Russ Feldhausen russfeld@ksu.edu

MARIE'S PICKS . . .
This week my pick from Cade Rensink, Central Kansas District, is from the 2009-10 database:
Each year we get numerous phone calls and office visits from people who are interested in developing wildlife habitat on their properties. While we do have some research-based information to share with them, often times we must refer them to another group or agency in order to meet their needs.
In April, we teamed up with Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Kansas Forest Service, and Pheasants/Quail Forever to host a Wildlife Habitat Resource Roundtable. This informational session was an opportunity for land managers and wildlife enthusiasts who have an interest in developing habitat or enhancing game populations to learn more about the various programs, services, and resources that are available to help them meet their goals.
Topics covered included wildlife habitat cost-share programs, habitat improvement through forestry programs and services, resources for upland game bird habitat development, private lands wildlife enhancement, and other Extension services. Following the session, the speakers were available for individual consultations regarding the participants' specific projects and goals. If they had questions or wanted to discuss or design a habitat plan with one of the experts, they had the opportunity to do so that evening.
While there were only about 25 people in attendance, we were able to reach a whole new audience for the district. Several of those present were not aware of Extension, nor did they realize that we offered these types of programs or services. Often times, we as ag agents are so busy with ag-based programming that we fail to recognize the opportunity for new audiences that have needs outside of production agriculture.
Interestingly, our attendees were not very local. There were 4-5 from within the district, but the majority was from at least an hour away. In fact, we had one participant who traveled from the KS-NE line and another from southwest Kansas (a 3 hour drive).
In addition, the few weeks that followed this workshop brought dozens more phone calls with inquiries about the meeting and where they could find more information. Many requested another meeting. The commitment that these travelers and callers showed makes me believe that there is a great need statewide for this type of programming. --Marie Blythe mblythe@ksu.edu
RILEY COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY
The Riley County Public Works Facility is leading a grant team to provide free energy efficiency and renewable energy services to several categories of eligible organizations, including city, county and state facilities; unified school districts and private schools; colleges, universities and technical schools; agribusiness; and non-profit organizations.

Eligible organizations can attend a one-day seminar in Riley County to receive a hands-on tour of four different types of wind turbines, solar LED lighting, solar radiant floor heating systems, and more. The next seminar is scheduled for October 26, and is open to all eligible Kansas organizations, regardless of location. A portion of the organizations attending the seminar will be selected for a free energy assessment. Be sure to read the 'application info' tab and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Seminars will also be conducted on January 25, 2012; April 25, 2012; July 25, 2012; and October 24, 2012. Please forward this information to your county commissioners, county departments, mayors, public works directors, city councils, schools, libraries, museums, and colleagues through your listserve and personal contacts and continue to visit our website as we add information about Resourceful Kansas, as well as resources for Energy Conservation, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy improvements.
