K-PICS NOW OPEN FOR 2013-14
K-PICS has re-opened for the 2013-2014 programming year! Included in this re-opening of the system are new or updated evaluation instrument templates for several program areas and new data entry and reporting features.
New Evaluation Instrument Features
- Access to collaborative evaluation instrument templates: allows you more flexibility in the evaluation instruments you can use and enter for your programs (for example, you can now gather data using templates developed for FNP SNAP-Ed with non-FNP SNAP-Ed audiences). Note: not all templates are collaborative. For those that are collaborative, once you select a program area and save an instrument based on that template, that same program area will need to be assigned to the program to enter the instrument response data.
- New custom question types: allows you more flexibility in the statistical values assigned to scale and side-by-side response options by giving you the option to choose a scale or side-by-side with the highest valued response option to the far right of the scale or “reversed” with the highest valued response option to the far left of the scale. Note: Previously, only a scale or side-by-side with the highest valued response option to the far right of the scale was available.
- View evaluation instruments saved by any user: allows you to see what evaluation instruments others in KSRE are using. Note: This view access does not allow you to enter instrument response data for instruments that you do not have access to edit.
New Program Data Entry Features
- Assign multiple program areas to a program: provides you the flexibility to enter data related to collaborative PFT action plans or for programs that combine content areas (for example, programs aligned to both Youth Development and Nutrition, Food Safety and Health).
- Add a comment to a program: provides you an open-text area for any notes you would like to attach to the program (for example, the names of your volunteers or reminders to enter data you are waiting to receive).
New Data Viewing and Reporting Features
- New filtering options throughout K-PICS, including ability to filter by programming year: provides you more flexibility in viewing or extracting data. Note: Filtering options vary by section.
- Programs & Participant chart: aggregates data across K-PICS to show the number of programs and participants by program area.
- Demographic charts: displays participant demographics (gender, age, race, ethnicity, caregivers, or food assistance) for programs you entered, updated or delivered. These charts are designed to help you report out numbers served.
- Demographics custom data extraction: exports a Microsoft Excel file with aggregated participant totals for a specified program area, Extension unit, and date range.
Please join the OEIE team at the K-State Research and Extension Annual Conference on the morning of Thursday, October 24, 2013 for a presentation and demonstration regarding these new K-PICS features.
While the 2012-2013 programming year is officially closed for K-PICS users, which means no additional data can be entered for 2012-2013, you can access your program data through the Manage Program Data and Reports & Analysis areas of the system. Additionally, you can continue to access and use the evaluation instruments you created.
Remember: The K-PICS Support Team is available via phone, 785-532-5930 and email, kpics@oeie.ksu.edu to assist you with the system. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about K-PICS. --Office of Educational Innovation and Evaluation

MARIE'S PICKS . . .
My pick this week includes outcomes reported by Susan Johnson, Douglas County.
Through the Family Nutrition Program (FNP), Extension offers nutrition education to individuals and families who receive or are eligible to receive food stamps. By partnering with local schools and agencies, a total of 3,913 youth and adults in Douglas County participated in FNP programs this year. Participants learned how to choose and prepare nutritious meals and snacks, balance food with physical activity, handle and store food safely, and manage their food dollars through in-school, after-school and early childhood programs, senior meal sites, WIC, and parks and recreation programs. --Marie Blythe mblythe@ksu.edu

This is the last posting of our timeline for 150 years of K-State Research and Extension. I hope you have enjoyed the weekly messages and maybe learned something of our history. I know I enjoyed creating the timeline and have a much better feel for our past. I am encouraged and know the future will be as exciting as the past 150 years. Go Cats!
