WORD FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - EXTENSION AND APPLIED RESEARCH
How does a 100 year old organization called Extension remain
valued, relevant, reliable, and responsive now and into our future? Conveying the image of being a source for information,
education, and answers is difficult to defend when compared to the breadth and
depth of information at the fingertips of everyone with a cell phone, tablet,
laptop, or any other means to search the internet. Why would anyone think that Extension is
necessary?
Clearly, Extension continues to survive and thrive because
we hold to our principles. Our
principles include being trusted, friendly, committed, listening
and understanding, building upon research, and providing practical education to
help people, businesses, and communities solve problems, develop skills, and
build a better future. Those principles were guideposts for Extension
in its infancy, and will continue in the future.
As an
organization, we must continuously seek to
improve. It is clear that we must continuously look for new and
better ways
to continue to lift up people and communities, provide for innovation
and creativity, seek broad inclusion, remain pertinent and germane to
the real problems and opportunities, and provide value beyond
expectation. Those are tall orders, and we must strive each day for
excellence to remain true to fulfilling those tall orders. Together we
can and will succeed.
I've posted the 2025 Extension Strategic Plan on this page "about Extension." This is the plan that was presented and discussed at Partnership
meetings earlier this winter. I also have a link on that page to the Powerpoint presentation that I used to convey some key points on the influence the plan has to local Extension programming and structures.

K-PICS TRAINING WEBINAR – APRIL 24
Never used K-PICS or need a refresher?
Join OEIE and the K-PICS Support Team for the K-PICS Training Webinar on April 24, at 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This training has a Natural Resources PFT focus and will walk you through the structure and features of K-PICS through an in-depth look at the Natural Resources program area.
The webinar will provide a broad perspective but incorporate realistic and identifiable scenarios. All KSRE professionals, program assistants, and volunteers are welcome to attend. The webinar will be recorded and posted within K-PICS for future reference and training opportunities.
Learning Objectives
The webinar will describe and walk through:- The different types of user permissions
- The process of accessing evaluation tools
- The process of entering program and instrument response data
- The process of entering a success story
- The process of extracting data from K-PICS
- The types of support available to users
Learning Outcomes
After the webinar, attendees should:
- Be familiar with the different user permissions
- Know how to find, modify, and save evaluation instruments for any program area
- Know how to enter the necessary program and participant demographic data
- Know how to add evaluation instruments to programs and enter the collected instrument responses
- Know how to enter a success story and create a Word Map of selected stories
- Be familiar with the types of charts, maps, and exports that are available to extract data from K-PICS
- Be familiar with the types of support materials that are available within K-PICS
We will be using Adobe Connect. Before the webinar, please allow time to test or retest your computer before entering the Connect meeting room, http://connect.ksre.ksu.edu/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm.
This test will take about 30 seconds, and will help you add whatever you need to make the connection work. Once it is complete and ready you will have check marks by the four test items. The test will assist in mitigating connection and audio issues that you may encounter when attending this webinar.

PLEASE ATTEND THE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION CEREMONY - APRIL 30TH
On
Wednesday, April 30, from 2 - 4 p.m. in the Union Ballroom, the Kansas
State University Classified Employee Recognition Ceremony will take
place.
Employees will be recognized for: Years of Service;
Attaining Retirement; as Departmental/Unit Employees of the Year; plus
the K-State Classified Award of Excellence will be announced. Dr. Donita
Whitney-Bammerlin, Instructor and Academic Program Coordinator,
Department of Management, College of Business Administration, will be
the ceremony's guest speaker. Refreshments
will be served following
the ceremony.
K-State Research and Extension will have many
employees being recognized in the various categories. Employees
being recognized in the Departmental/Unit category are:
