FOUR-STATE MISSOURI RIVER CORRIDOR STRATEGIC PLANNING CONFERENCE
The upcoming four-state strategic planning conference for counties and
businesses along the Missouri River Corridor is quickly approaching.
The conference is November 17-18, at the Kimmel Education and Research
Center in Nebraska City, NE. Pre-registration is required by November
3.
Strategic planning in the fifty-mile corridor on each side of
the Missouri River crosses many local community, county and state
boundaries. Extension professionals from four states, through their
access to research-based information systems, will lead a two-day
retreat for MINK - Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas members and other
interested individuals from within the MINK Corridor. By
collaboratively identifying the strongest, regional development focus
and developing a plan to be collectively implemented, local communities
can eventually increase their business profitability through the
heightened awareness of a regional brand and identity. Actions
communities can take to increase their market strategies and services
across state lines will be identified so profitability and
sustainability can be more fully implemented.
The focus of the strategic planning will be: ¨ identifying and engaging regional representation that will unite around the economic strategic planning process.
¨ assisting with the interpretation of data to focus on the best decisions for economic development.
¨ developing the mission and message that will attract investors, stakeholders and citizen support.
¨ developing an economic strategic plan for the region with associated actions necessary for implementation.
¨ incorporating good practices and associated tools for attracting and securing public and private investments. Cost
for the conference is $55. Registration deadline is November 3. For

EXPERTS PROVIDE RESOURCES TO MANAGE FINANCES
Money is often on the minds of most Americans. In fact, according to the American Psychological Association's 2007 Stress in America survey, money and work are two of the top sources of stress for almost 75 percent of Americans. Many begin to fear how they can handle any further financial distress. But now we have another resource to turn to --eXtension.org, a multi-university researched-based website.
University financial management experts from cooperative extension units have collaborated in contributing information and research to this one national extension website. The financial management group has nearly 300 members from 44 states and one territory land-grant institutions. eXtenion's Financial content can be found at http://www.extension.org. It is organized into the following resource areas: Community, Disaster Issues, Energy, Environment, Family, Farm, Health and Nutrition, Lawn and Garden, Pest Management and Youth. The reports and articles found on this site reflect the "best of the best" information from university experts.
Not only do eXtension's experts provide consumers with tools to help people cope with stress, practice positive spending habits, manage their debt and stretch their dollars, but they also are available to answer specific consumer questions. Website viewers can identify a specific category, ask their questions and expect to quickly receive an answer from an industry expert. Likewise, viewers can post comments about articles and resources on the website.
The eXtension.org site has numerous articles from "Estate Planning," to "Managing Money in Tough Times," to "When Prices Rise: Living on Your Income." In addition, some sites have mobile apps, finance calculators and upcoming webinars like "Keeping Your Financial Records Secure."
eXtension is part of the Cooperative Extension Service and is unlike any other search engine or information-based website.
