Shout Out: Teresa Hatfield and Becky Reid
This week the Shout Out is from Christina Holmes, FCS Extension Specialist, Southeast Research & Extension Center; and is sent for Teresa Hatfield, Meadowlark District FCS Agent, and Becky Reid, Cowley County FCS Agent. Christina writes:
"I would like to give a shout out to Teresa Hatfield (FCS Agent in Meadowlark Extension District) and Becky Reid (FCS agent in Cowley County) for their great work in the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) grant partnership with KU Med. In their DPP role as lifestyle coaches, Becky and Teresa have done a fantastic job supporting participants with pre-diabetes in increasing weekly physical activity levels, improving eating habits, and achieving weight loss over the course of the one-year intervention program.
Teresa started her cohort in September and Becky started her cohort in January. Currently 31 individuals are participating in the program, with a documented total weight loss of 236.9 pounds! Currently, 8 of the participants have lost over 5% of their body weight, and 3 have lost over 7%! Research indicates that pre-diabetic Diabetes Prevention Program participants who achieved a weight loss of 5-7% of their body weight, have a 58% reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes! Thank you, Becky and Teresa, for your hard work in implementing the DPP program and for supporting program participants in reaching their current and long-term health goals!"
Teresa and Becky -- thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Research and Extension.
