Local Unit Team Building – Harmony at Work

Submitted by Gregg Hadley

Is your local unit, office, or department a good team? Do you work well together when collaborating and seek out opportunities to collaborate? Do you support each other as colleagues on each other’s individual professional endeavors? Are you glad to see your team members achieve recognition for their work?

Or, is your local unit merely a group of individual professionals that share an office and stay out of each other’s way? Worse yet, is it a group of individuals who cannot get along and look for opportunities to get in each other’s way. Have your departing colleagues stated, as many recently have, that they wished the local unit had a better office environment or a stronger sense of team?

The poet Mattie Stepanek once stated “Unity is strength – when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” Or, as my former University of Wisconsin - Extension agent colleague and friend, Bob Cropp, once opined “With bad teamwork, 1+1+1 will equal three or less. With good teamwork, 1+1+1 will equal way more than 3!”

Why not become a better team? Registration is now open for our upcoming “Local Unit Team Building – Harmony at Work” workshops. Some have been referring to these workshops as the “Cousin Jethro Workshops” (https://ksre.ksu.edu/tuesday/announcement.php?id=38222). The single day workshops will be held from 8:45 to 3:00 on April 13 in Wichita, April 16 in Manhattan, April 17 in Hays, and May 1 in Dodge City. At the Harmony at Work workshops we will learn the characteristics of good teams, how to adjust to each individual’s unique personality traits, how to address conflict, and how to start building a better Extension team.

Registrations will be capped at 75 participants at each session. Register today at http://www.ksre.k-state.edu/employee_resources/registrations/.
