Retirement Reception for Joseph Becker, May 31

After graduating from K-State in 1980, with a BS in Agronomy, Joe Becker was accepted as Research Assistant to the Grain Sorghum-Greenbug Resistance Program at the KSU Ft. Hays Branch Experiment Station in Hays. He started working at the station July 21, 1980.
In 1982, he transferred to become the Groundskeeper (1982) for the Hays Experiment Station soon to be known as the Ag Research Center-Hays (ARCH). It opened many opportunities for him in personal growth, expression and experience. Over the years, he cooperated with many KSU researchers in performance trials of ornamental grass, turf, flowers, trees and shrubs.
Several responsibilities have been added over the years: (1985) janitorial of main building; (1985) events and tour coordinator; (1986) Official Weather Observer for this location; (1990) Safety Coordinator for ARCH with the addition of (2016) Colby, Garden City, and Tribune Research Centers and (2020) NW & SW Area Extension Offices. Besides specific assignments, he was involved in many other projects and activities at ARCH over the years.

Much is owed to my staff that has supported and worked with me over the years.”
