Shout Out: Shane Potter
The Shout Out this week comes from Kimberly Williams, professor in the Department of Horticulture & Natural Resources; and is directed to Shane Potter, extension specialist in the Department of 4-H Youth Development. Kim writes:
"Shane Potter, 4-H Youth Development Specialist for Ag and Natural Resources and STEM topic areas, did a fantastic job supporting and carrying out with the Geology Action Team the 2022 4-H Geology State Field Trip from June 10-12, 2022. About 240 4-H youth in the geology project and their families participated in this three-day event that took place over five stops in southeast Kansas' Osage Cuestas and Chautauqua Hills.
Picture, if you will, a caravan of a hundred cars winding from highways onto dirt roads to remote locations where all of these participants could park and walk to large areas where every one of the 4-H youth could easily find an abundance of rock, mineral and fossil samples for their collections. Imagine the challenges of the heat, ticks and dirt roads shredding tires. Shane was the last vehicle in the caravan, and he facilitated assistance to families that were having trouble...which included changing at least three flat tires and helping a family with a car that wouldn't start in an extremely remote location. How do I know?
My family was the one with car trouble! Shane did all of this with calm, cheerfulness and the utmost professionalism. This shout out to Shane and the Geology Action Team is a note of appreciation for providing this opportunity to 4-H youth and their families under some challenging conditions."
Shane, thanks for all you do for the people of Kansas, our colleagues and K-State Research and Extension.
