The Grand Challenge for Health Initiative

Submitted by Elaine Johannes

GCfH

Join us for the fifth cohort of the KSRE Grand Challenge for Health (GCfH) initiative beginning with the SAHC (Systems Approaches for Healthy Communities) course Jan. 21-March 11, 2025!

The initiative begins with KSRE extension professionals completing the 8wk, online asynchronous Systems Approaches for Healthy Communities (SAHC) class (Jan. 21-March 11, 2025) and receiving small group and individual coaching from KSRE specialists during and after the course. After completion of SAHC, Extension professionals will be eligible for a $10,000 cooperative agreement to engage a new audience, work with them to conduct an informal assessment of community health needs and resources, and then implement a community-level (PSE) health project. After the two-year GCfH project, working relationships will have been established with new audiences and the health and well-being of whole communities will have improved. Examples of seven prior GCfH projects are highlighted on the KS Dept. of Health and Environment’s Healthy Kansas 2030 website here.

Please say “Yes!” to this invitation. Discuss this opportunity with your Extension unit leader, your local board, and contact GCfH Initiative leader if you have questions (Elaine Johannes, Stephanie Gutierrez, Lisa Ross).

Indicate your interest in joining the GCfH fifth cohort and register for the SAHC course by sending Stephanie Gutierrez (smgutier@ksu.edu) an email before January 17, 2025.

Thank you for the quality, health-promoting Extension work you do in your local communities. We appreciate you continuing to take bold steps as an Extension system leader for Kansas.
